I was cruising around the the Buell website and noticed the Adventure Grant contest. I couldn't resist myself and had to enter. I was wondering if any other bad weather bikers have entered the contest? If you want to disclose what you wrote it is OK but I am going to wait till after the final day to enter before I disclose what my dream adventure would be. I know that no one on this site would try and steal my idea, but not taking any chances. I think that everyone will like what I wrote so stay tuned to this thread to hear this great adventure I came up with.

Alpaca's are cool looking. Are they intelligent?

They are smarter than the average person that I had to deal with when I was a recruiter in the Army. For real, they are a very intelligent animal. I have learned so much about animal behavior from these animals. Check out my web site: http://www.rivendellmeadows.com

Now what about my original question?

I only wish I knew what they tasted like. We pay to much for them to eat them here. I guess I will have to take a trip to South America to get a good tasting.

How has anyone judged their intelligence? Do they herd? Fetch? Do tricks? Get trained? Act in movies?

They sure do keep us warm...

Alpacas are very trainable. 20ish years ago, I read an article in Smithsonian about a couple of golf courses on the east coast that were using Alpacas instead of golf carts. Evidently, they are capable of learning a route, repeating it and can be trained to crap and pee in the same spot (roped off areas on the course for them to use.)

Their hooves are very big for their size, so they do less damage than a golf cart.

After reading the article, Bonnie and I looked into Alpaca farming (we were milking cows at the time.) Cost of admission was too steep for us.

Having owned alpacas for 6 years now I know they are very smart. If you have ever tried to catch one you are going to know what I am talking about. They can calculate the length of your arm to the length of their neck and stay just out of your reach when you try to touch them. It is like magnetic polar opposites. You reach out and they sway their neck just enough so you don;t touch them. It can be really annoying at times. Go to an alpaca farm and try to touch one and you will know exactly what I am talking about.

Known fact: Alpaca goes well with okra.

That's what I get for not reading the OP's original post.

Chit, EG ... that's the funniest thing I've read in a long time.

I remember this fellow engineer had a farm and was raising ostriches and wanted to sell me a pair. At the time ostrich buying and selling was kind of a pyramid scheme with ostrich pairs selling upwards to $50,000 or more. With that said, I think I'm going to start a market for buying and selling them thar mongoloid nauger's. Sound like a fortune is to be made. I'm going to find me a pair of those barricade orange colored naugers to start with.
