Well, I'm thinking about joining the Buell fold again. Had an '02 Cyclone which I adored but sold it several years ago. Great to see my ID/PW is still valid here!

A nearby BMW dealer took an '08 Ulysses in on a trade. It has been sitting on the floor for about two months. They're asking around $8K. Bike has 7200 miles on it. A Jardine can is the muffler. Took the bike out on a 50 mile test ride. Seems OK but the muffler is loud and the bike backfires on decel like an angry popcorn machine.

So the exhaust will have to go. My guess is the previous owner added an air cleaner kit but did nothing to the FI. Any reco's on my options to order a muffler with a little more volume than the stock can (which I don't have), but quieter that the Jardine, and how I can get the bike tuned?

Attaching a dealer pic. What do you think about the price and what I'm getting? Thanks much for the help.

Steve

My stock can has been drilled out a bit to make it a little louder, but not annoying. You could sell the Jardine and buy a stocker and still probably come out on top. It should also be easy to see if it has the race ecm or the stock part simply by looking under the seat. Having said all that, I would say that is a fair price if they can get the rough running conditions fixed for you before you purchase it.

Steve, I understand about getting a good deal but give High Country HD/Buell up in Fredrick a call or go test ride one that has not been screwed with. They are the best dealer I have found in Colorado. I am not sure if they have any used ones in stock or not but they can tell you. Talk to Dave (he is on this site as well and the dealership is a sponsor here).

I think that deal is around average from craigslist and what I have seen in dealerships in this area.

Welcome back to Buells.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's anything you can do yet to the FI on an '08.

I believe you are right. 2008 and up I think.

If you can't get a race ecm for the 08 maybe you could just pull the pipe off and wait for a solution to come along.

Thanks all.

F_skinner... Great advice. Spoke with Dave on the phone, and learned/gained much. Now leaning towards working out something with High Country and going for an "X" versus "XT". Thanks.

Steve, glad I can help. Dave is a great guy and very knowledgeable about the Uly. He has one!

When you get the bike make sure you let us know. Also, check the "Storm Fronts" section of this site for the CBR (Colorado Buell Rider) section. And if you ever find yourself heading South let me know.

Frank
