After installing the Parabellum 28-in windshield on my XB12XT, my wife was happy riding 2-up. I, on the other hand, had a severe wind-noise problem at speeds > 65 mph. Finally realized that it was the turbulent air-flow coming up from under the handlebars that was causing my problem. This morning I tried an experiment and nylon-tied a couple of storage pouches that I had lying around, to the handle-bar, then used a small bungee to hold them together and keep them from being blown out to the sides. The difference was amazing! The noise is almost all gone. I can actually hear the engine, even when it is purring in that 3.5K RPM sweet spot. They sure are ugly, but they provide a little extra storage space for earplugs, maps, etc., and they work so well! Anyone know of a prettier, commercial product that will do this? Len    | ||

Big screens can often makes things much worse and can really mess up the air flow around the bike because they create so much air pressure and push the problem else where. Having tested the standard Buell Tall screen (as on the XT) many times, it doesn't cause any problems at well over 100mph. It just needs positioning forward to be effective and give a bit of pressure relief. | ||

I'm interested in the heim joint setups you have supporting your windscreen - I've been thinking about adding something similar to my CeeBailey 16" to keep it from wagging the cluster around. Could you post or PM a pic of one of those to me, and maybe a list of what you used? | ||

Installed the Memphis Shades Lowers just yesterday and getting ready to take it out for a quick 3 day trip. Will report back after the trip on the effectiveness. Mounting and looks are superb on the Uly. I know....show me the pics. I will post them when I return. Others in another thread highly recommended the set up and some had a DIY options that mimic the Shades. My riding partner just arrived so off we go! | ||

I have the Parabellum 28" windshield also. I first had the Buell tall windshield, but seemed to have noise/buffeting. Once I put on the Parabellum, it seemed to have little, or no difference, but the Parabellum offered more rain protection. It is huge, and kind of ugly, but the mounts are great. I finally discovered where all the wind was coming from, on a rainy, highway road trip. It seemed that wind and rain funnels its way past the fairing,(too narrow) alongside the frame. The wind would hit my stomach,roll up, and cause turbulence around my helmet. The rain just got channeled into my crotch. The fly on my Areostich pants wouldn`t stay up, so the rest you guys can figure out. Not fun. After all this "research", I though that if I made some kind of wing to divert the wind around the fairing it would hopefully solve this problem. Lens idea with the bags is kind of proves my theory. I though of mounting some, pieces of acrilic(free from one of my friends) on the 3 lowest mounting screws on the fairing. You would probably need to get longer screws, and some kind of rubber washers and mount it behind the windshield. i haven`t had time to mess with something like this, yet. Hey, Firstbatch, how did your Memphis Shades, work. Could you post any picts, please. I wish Buell would make a smarter Sport Tourer. | ||

The Memphis Shades lowers are not model specific. The mounting clamps are the only difference since the diameter of the fork tube is the differentiating factor. I believe the correct sized ones also fit the Honda VTX IIRC. | ||

Did a little rummaging through the archives and have part numbers. Clear lowers (black,smoked,and others available) MEP5810 and mounting kit MEM9890. With just a small amount of fitting these clear the frame perfectly. Memphis Shades is the only way to go! | ||

Thanks for directing me to some picts, Dio. Correct me if I am wrong, but the Memphis Shades lowers area around $25, and the mounts are $57??! That seems a little steep to me, Mr. Cheap-O. I think I will try to make my own first, screw that up, then break down and buy the Memphis Shades lowers,& mounts. Thanks | ||

I cut the acrylic with an electric jigsaw / fine tooth metal blade. The ride is much quieter. Also, when I try at 125 mph, there is no more air trying to lift me off the bike when I duct behind the windshield. Cheers | ||

I don't know if you have a Menards handy but I suppose Home Depot, Lowes, etc would do. They sell acrylic, and clear polycarbonate in 8" x 8" sheets or larger if you want for very little. Just saw them at Menards the other day. Why pay high dollar for Memphis Shades when you can do your own for way less, especially if you have to file on the MShades to make them fit the ULY. Just do it all for yourself. | ||

A friend of mine gave me some acrylic strips a while ago. I will first try to make my own. Some of the home mades look pretty good. The Memphis Shades look great too, but I`ll try to save some $. Need $ for bad rear wheel bearings. | ||

Besides a Big Ass Windshield, if you use a Big Ass Tank Bag, it will perform the same function as the wind deflectors described here. | ||

Just a thought on this. Wouldn't the airflow you're trying to stop/deflect be designed to be there to feed the airbox intake? | ||

The Shades work great and don't interrupt airflow to the left or right scoops. Best wind turbulence reduction mod I have tried. Performance and fuel mileage are the same before and after. I don't see the air intake as a "ram air" design or function. It sucks air in  | ||

Have any of you noticed interference between the memphis shades fork bracket and the clutch cable on the right side when turn steering to lock on left side. Also appears clutch cable may rub against exposed threads on pinch bolt. Just a thought. I wrapped the clutch cable in electrical tape for now. Will have to think of a permanent solution. Would suck to have wind protection but create condition that causes a clutch cable failure. Appears also on rt side brake line will rub on rt side brakcet. Dont think this will be an issue though due to the brake line being steel braided w/ teflon coat, it will rub against flat edge of bracket. | ||

As mentioned on this website, I bought a Slipstreamer Hellfire windscreen on ebay. About $115 delivered. Nice setup really. I bought the 22V, the "V" being the difference. With the Rox risers it fits very well! I may cut the windscreen so it looks "squared off" on the bottom to fit the flow of the Buell. This one is designed for a Honda 800 to fit over the headlight. I was able to use the mounting brackets on the lower portion of the handlebars because I have Rox risers. The lower mounts provided worked perfectly with the Ulysses inverted forks. I had to fabricate a 3-4 inch piece of galvi from a deck floor hanger to reach the mounting, maybe paint it black someday to make it look better. I rode it tonight and found a small bit of helmet buffeting, but absolutely nothing on the body! Maybe a higher angle toward me will decrease the helmet buffeting. I'll be playing with the different windshield angles, and having a beer thinking about it! Yes, I'm peeling the "hellfire" sticker off.
