Hey Ken, lots of suggestions for ya! Ever been to Nor Cal? It would take an eternity to see all that this fine (but broke) state has to offer.

I would personally minimize time spent in Oakland. : )

A few must-see destinations include:

Big Sur
Napa Valley
The Sierra Nevada Mts.
Lake Tahoe
Yosemite NP
Sequoia NP
Kings Canyon NP
Mt Shasta
The entire coast of California
Lassen Volcanic NP

Depending on how much time you plan on "wandering", your choices are nearly limitless! The majority of the places I listed are within 2-4 hours tops.

Have fun, bring a map, maybe a GPS, and just get lost!!! And I mean that in a good way!

If passing thru Utah, hit Hwy 12, then Hwy 24 thru Captiol Reef NP then over towards Moab, along the CO river, then onto Colorado for some nice riding.

hey thanks yall. Aside from the Bay area for work, really a noob to Northern California and the PNW. I've some friends living in Oakland who're helping with the logistics of retrieving the bike and sending me on my way. I'm hoping to do my fair share of checking out the National Parks. Have some friends in Portland, Seattle, Vancouver and bits of Colorado so hoping to use that as an excuse for waypoints. Was thinking about maybe going to the High Sierra music festival over the 4th. Have about 4 weeks to get to Vintage Days.

'dinger, as a CA native and riding all those places within the last 35 years I concur that they will leave lasting impressions. But he has only 4 weeks and you can't absorb all that in a year!

Compounded by the fact that it is now the tourist season here in said broke KA, and said parks and scenic highways will be loaded with visitors.

West to East US 12 or 20 is my personal goal, if and when I ever get 4 weeks of unfettered moto bliss. Secondary highways whenever possible, interstates if necessary.

Sekalilgai, have fun and ride safe. Wish I were in your shoes to have to decide.
