Folks: My fiance' is trying to sell her 07 Buell Scg (medical reasons). She does not seem to be getting any takers or even anyone interested. We live on the flatlands of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Any of you folks have any ideas on how best to move the bike? We are thinking of e-bay and Craigs list, anything else that I could suggest to her? Thanks

i think it will be a matter of luck.. ebay has been pretty dead lately.. buells are not the easiest bike to sell and the economy is flat..

Buell's don't have a huge market, so they tend to be slower to sell. Use Craigslist, then Ebay. Also post it here on the classifieds

If you had a GSXR 600 that you crashed into a tree, you can sell that in 5 minutes : )

Have you maybe talked to the local dealer and see what they would give you for it? if not I would go the craigslist route or ebay

Thanks Folks, Local dealer has a book for people to put a pic and a write up of the bike they are selling, he is backing off of Buells. I also have posted on this board and all the others that may have an interest. O well, I guess she will just keep on pluging away.

Dont underestimate the value in pieces. A good motor will fetch $1800 and eventually every single piece will sell..Ebay is a good way to part out anything. I have been given bikes that made me big $$$$ on EBAY.

All good ideas that I will persue tonight. As a last resort I might consider the disassembly method, I am not sure how Sara would take to the idea however.
Thanks

Many moto-destinations have cork bulletin boards where you can hang an ad.

Good luck with that. Really, the bike market is really, really bad right now. My only advice is to not use mororcycle.com to sell anything. I had email from overseas scamers and crooks daily for two weeks. However, it is kind of fun to screw with them. You might also want to throw in something you might not normally do...such as, "I will deliver X number of miles."

Yes - the market is bad now. It took me several months and a $1200 price reduction to sell my BMW R100RT.

I guess the price reduction was more important than the several months, but even after I drastically reduced the price it took a few weeks.

I thought the market is fine? I bought a Blast last weekend that was listed for only about a day before I came and got it. The seller got 2 phone calls while I was in his driveway from people wanting the bike.

Froggy:

I think a lot of it has to do with price. On a bike under $3,000, you get a lot of interest on bikes over that amount the interest is very limited right now. It took me six months and a substantial price reduction to sell my '04 BMW RT.

Some parts of the woods are better than others, here in AZ I've had my 04 Ultra on the market for 6 months at $13K and had 2 nibbles, One started out with a offer of $10K. up to 74K miles now so somebody hurry before it turns into a high mileage bike.

$3k was the magic number for me too. I was originally asking $3.5k for my R100RT. I got no legitimate inquiries at all until I dropped the price to $2.7k.

I can't keep Blasts and small metric trades (250 Ninjas, smaller Vulcans, and even 1250 Bandits) in stock these days. Price point. Folks are looking for a way to save fuel (and fuel $), without spending all that saved money on the means to the savings.

That said, the used market is FLOODED right now, with the 100% financing mortgage folks, trying to pay their bills, and getting the toy out of the garage to free up *that* payment money to keep a roof over their heads. Trade values are down across the board, and the number of bikes is staggering right now.

Yikes! There are scads of bikes in the Flea Market now that I'd LOVE to have. Several either super clean or reasonably airhead GS's...Tigers, various Ducati etc even a Spotless 2009 BMW F800GS that some guy is selling used for more than the price of a new one. Ok, I can live without that one...

Please don't send me there again! I've got more important things to right now than to spend an entire hour mopping up the drool.

Thanks everyone, Sara sold it today. Seems like one of the local sportbike nets was the key.

Just unloaded a 2004 Ninja 250 for $2K on craigslist. Dude showed up with the green and a truck. Wish every bike was that easy to unload.

I am thinking about putting my GSX-R 600 up for sale. I've got the jones for a V-twin sportbike.

If I can find a decent 1125 that's been down and not too expensive or an RC51 for a decent price. It will be a track tool, so I don't really want to spend more than about $4500 or so. Figuring an 1125 is pretty much out of the question for that sort of cash unless it's got some fixable damage.
