Easy enough job. Remove the airbox (pretty easy but it's the hardest part) Unplug electrical connector from IAC (the IAC is just to the right of the throttle body right on top) remove two screws from IAC and lift out. Install new O-ring on new IAC and set in place. Put a little dab of threadseal on the end of torx socket (to hold screw on so it won't drop down into the engine, it's a bit tight on the TB side of things)and a little dab of LockTite on each screw. Tighten screws using the right wrist torque sensor. Squirt a little dielectric jell on the electrical connector and plug connector to IAC. Reinstall airbox and cover.

Finished up after 11 last night (didn't start until after 10) so I didn't test ride it. My son-in-law and I were scheduled to go kayaking this AM but he had a meltdown at work due to an error by a Data Base Administrator and didn't get the data base rebuilt until 5 this morning so he begged off. Test ride time...

I start the bike up and it chuggs a few times and stalls, start it again and it chuggs a few times and stalls. I say to my self "This is good! Something has changed!" So I did a TPS reset (Its an 08 so it's easy) and restarted the bike. Fires right up and idles at 1500 rpm. After running at 1500 for several seconds it backs down to 1050. So far, so good. A light amount of surging but I figure the ECM hasn't caught up with the new IAC yet so I get on my gear and hit the road.

It's mildly jerky starting off and the first time I pass 5000 rpm it bucks a bit so I decide to ride in closed loop for a few miles. 50-55 mph, 5th gear, between 2500 & 3000 rpm. Just loping along. As I ride along I can feel the bike running smoother than it has in months. Things are looking up.

At every stop sign the idle settles right down to 1050 again just like it should. I stop and fuel up, and now it's hammering time!

Pulls nice and clean right through till it hits the limiter. Even the hit on the limiter feels smoother and gentler than it ever did. Pulls nice and clean in top gear from under 2000rpm now too. I'm lovin' it!

Quick question... is there a way to know if the TPS reset correctly? I did one on my '09 the other day but I wondered if it was correct or not.

Also, cool to see you sorted out the problem! Keep us posted if anything funky happens.

Does the IAC cause surging & stumbling on the '06 engines too or just the new ones? Mine is so jerky between 1700 & 3k that I must feather the clutch constantly. Dealer says it's running fine.

The 06 models do not have an IAC. I would check the TPS setting on your bike.
