I have the outdoorsman bags now and need more room in in the side bags. I have been looking at Hepco Becker bags because I am assuming they will attach the same way as the outdoorsman bags. I am looking at the Xplorer bags and the Journey Recon. http://www.hepco-becker.de/_eng/frameset.php Also, they have the outdoorsman bags in the 40 liter model which is another way to go. Anyone with opinions? I do not want to change the mounting system from Buell. TIA, Frank | ||

You can pick up a set of Journey bags off a Badwebber cheap. They are 40L too. | ||

Froggy, I was under the impression they mounted different. The latch, attaching the bag to the frame, is on the rear of the outdoorsman bags and I thought they were on the front of the earlier bags. I could be mistaken as I have not followed the development of Uly bags throughout the years. | ||

They will still fit on your loops according to others on here that have done it. | ||

The big Pelicans are great. Only drawback is that you will lose the triple tail and passenger pegs on a Uly. They do look good but I cannot find them from a distributer in this country. I wish they showed better pics and also pics of the back of the bags. | ||

I have a set of the 40L Junior (Outdoorsman), but have yet to get them on the bike. They seem very sturdy and reports suggest they're more reliably waterproof than the Journey. I can't comment on if they go on "differently" as I have never had any other bag on the bike. I will NOT have to put them on backwards the way some folks have talked about; the latch is in the back. They're not on the bike yet because I felt like I was being raped paying $3 for individual pieces of attachment hardware. Unfortunately, the instructions and parts list don't fully describe all the necessary nuts and bolts, so I'm having to try and track that down. Next move is probably going to include a little trial and error. How many folks here know exactly what a "Belleville" washer is? I do - now, but not what size is required. | ||

I have the Hepco Becker Gobi bags on my Uly. I used the stock mounting racks from the Journey bags. Most Hepco racks have the latch in the back whereas the ones that come with the Journey bags have the latch in the front but the Journeys and Gobi bags can be flopped around you would never know any difference. | ||

Frank - early Journey bags will fit fine on your Outdoorsman racks, just backwards. They do latch in the front on the Journeys, but the shape of the mount is identical (if mirrored). The outdoorsman racks also move the bag back on the bike by about an inch / inch and a half, which IMO is an extra bonus. You'll clear the new turn signal location no problem. I put Journeys on our XP demo, as a test fit. Journeys on Outdoorsman racks,  Outdoorsman bags on Journey racks...  . They hit stuff (like footpegs and turn signals). | ||

Thanks for all the great info. I looked and could not find a distributer in the USA that has the Recon bags in stock or even listed on their web site. If I can find the other Buell bag cheap enough I will get those. I am packed and heading out to NM but not camping because the company is paying for a swanky hotel. The bags I have now are perfect for Hotel Camping but as Homecoming taught me I need more room for real camping. Frank | ||

Frank's already got the Outdoorsmans with racks on his bike. My guess (knowing Frank) is he'd rather not buy a whole new system, just a set of sides that he can swap back and forth. Comes from being an S2 owner...it's niiiice having wide bags one day, narrow the next  | ||

Aw, c'mon Frank...you know I wouldn't say *that*..... I do admit, I've considered getting a set of outdoorsman side racks and side bags, just for the interchangability factor.....but then we *had* to get Kim a new bike and that plan went right out the window lol. |
