I picked up a 2006 seat from a fellow badwebber and it's in great shape and the ride height is right for me but it's too firm I think.

Is this that way they all are? The 2008 is shaped stupidly but is softer and I can take it longer.

Ideally, I would love a tall soft seat.
Has anyone out there ever had their seat redone?

I dunno. Perhaps my hinder is just too delicate?
I can still go longer on my X1 than my XB12X that doesn't seem right to me!

I think it just doesn't fit some butts. I did the same and it felt great commuting back and forth to work. Then I took it on a 3000+ mile trip. I had my stock '08 saddle back on within 15 minutes of getting home. I can ride all day on the stocker, though I am considering a Rick Mayer custom....

DITTO - Long rides bust my ass with the 06 seat. The 08 seat rolls me forward so when it's hot, my backside feels like a twisted up beach towel. What is a Rick Mayer custom???

Good to know I'm not alone.
I am using mine to commute too : )
Awesome for that.

My commute is an hour long, not 500 miles though.

A lot of people are happy with Spencers seat mods.

Hi Steve,

I looked at the greatdaytoride site and it looks like a good option. Did you have your seat modified or have direct experience with someone that did?

I have an 07, traded a webber for an 06. I like the taller height and am not crazy about the firmness. 350ish miles in a day is about all my butt can do.

The passenger portion is also very slippery. If I remember, the 07 seat was all the same material, the 06 seat is smooth vinyl on the passenger portion.

I am thinking about a custom, but do not want to loose any height. If anything, I would prefer to gain an inch.

I just got back from the homecoming, Riding from Michigan to East Troy. I bought a sheepskin, from a store called TJ MAXX. The hides are around $45.00. You can put elastic with clips to attach it to your seat. It is really easy to do. If you would buy it from a bike shop, the price would be well over $100.00. The trip went well, with no problem, as far as comfort.

Seats are really subjective. For every seat that someone loves, somebody else hates it. I put a modified '06 low seat on my '08 XT and I love it. Last Sunday, I rode from Milwaukee to Syracuse, NY (roughly 800 miles) before putting up for the night, and my butt wasn't hurting.
Some people love the tall '06 seat, saying that it's the most comfortable seat they've ever had on a motorcycle. Others have called it really ugly things. Some people love Corbin seats, but I wouldn't put one on my bike if they paid me.
Nate, you're tall; so I'd suggest you find someone who has a tall '06 seat, and try it out. It might be just what you're looking for. If not, good luck in your search, and let us know how things go.

I ordered an 06 Standard seat from my dealer ($110.99) for my 09 Uly. It fits me perfect. I could never get comfortable on the 09 seat. Like Crusty said, seats are subjective.

The 06 seat is better for the legs - it's just that someone used a railroad tie for padding. I think I'll have the seat filled up with a gel pad.
