Hey Everyone, I have now had a broken header stud three times. Each time has been caused by a missing lower exhaust mounting bolt. Luckily this last time I was able to weld on a nut and unscrew the broken stud. Last two times had to take into shop and replace head. So just warning everyone to check to make sure that bolt is tight and not missing. I replace the bottom bolt with a harder one hopeing it will not break again. |

Yes it is very nice. But like anywhere keeps getting more crowded. Nice and green with lots of trees and the water of course but most of the northwest is like that. |

Make sure you've re-tightened ALL the muffler fasteners to correct torque, in the correct order as per the Service Manual. Soon after the dealer changed out my fuel pump last year my front strap broke. When I replaced it that bolt was a s.o.b. to loosen, I replaced the special nut and soon after the bolt broke. I only found out when I saw the big piece lying in the street, then discovered a missing header stud nut too. I replaced the bolt with a hardened bolt and hardened locking-insert nut and torqued the muffler according to procedure, no problems since. The header nuts take a VERY light torque, I keep a couple spare in my tool bag. |

Now you tell me. I painted the muffler and didn't replace the front strap, contrary to the recommendations of the service manual. Strap broke, but I didn't know. It eventually vibrated off one of the rear straps and broke a header stud. |

Before my strap broke I'd swapped the stock muffler with my Drummer back and forth a few times, never replaced the front strap and no problems. I think mine broke due to ham-fisting of the fasteners by the guy who did the warranty work on my fuel pump. You don't need to use the factory part either if you're in a pinch. A hose supply shop or a big rig diesel truck supply will stock the same thing. They're used as air intake clamps. The longer t-bolt on some makes it easier to install also. |
