I have been riding my '06 Uly for 2 years (17,000 miles) and just before the warranty expired the rear shock started leaking. Buell replaced it but now I am hyper aware of my shock... man does it get hot! The fan blows right on it... no wonder the first failed so soon... I don't remember it being THIS hot however... is there supposed to be some kind of shroud to protect it? There should be! | ||

1, How do you know if your shock issue was due to heat? There have been around 100,000 Buell XB models built, and I have read of only a few failures, non of them due to heat as far as I know. I read all the time about shock issues with the tubers, yet they don't have a fan and aren't exposed to heat from the engine. | ||

The tuber failures are seemingly most attributed to the engine vibes being applied laterally to the axis of the shock's movement. | ||

i would think that the only problem that a super hot shock might have is the seal getting soft with heat and sucking up crap from the back wheel. damaging the seal. causing a leak. smoking the shock. they do make boots for shocks on ATV's that might keep some of the road off yer shock http://shockcovers.com/ |
