I have 1100 miles on my Uly as of this past weekend and I was doing my 1000 mile service last night. I took a look at the front brake pads and they seem a little thin to me. So my question is; at what point do i need to replace them? They have about 5mm of pad material left of each side which is substantially less that what the rear pads have. There is probably still 3mm left before I get to the end of the grooves in the pads. Is that when I need to replace them? I've never done brake pads before but they seem easy to replace. It sure seems like I'm wearing through them a little quick...thanks. |

They are not very thick when new. You do not need to do anything to them untill the groove is gone. Even after that you still have a while to go before they will cause any problem. |

I've got 17,000 miles on my original pads and no worries. |

ok thanks. I guess i was just comparing them to the thickness of the rear pads. Must be completely different. |

The rears are probably 2-3 times thicker than the fronts |

There are slots carved into the pads to indicate wear. My first set lasted to 10,000 I think. The rear looked brand new. The slots were killed but there was still lining material left. Rears looked untouched |
