I have just replaced the stock screen with a ZG larger screen and tried to get some lower mounting bolts from my dealer. Having used the search function here I gave him all the part numbers including the recall kit but, because my bike is 07, its not covered by recall so he cant/wont order the kit. Here I was thinking he might just because I have bought my last three bikes from him...pfft

Can anyone here give me the specs of nuts and bolts etc so I can go to my local hardware shop and order some damn stainless steel ones myself?

I'm confused! I recently replaced the stock screen with a larger and the six screws were stainless 10-32.

Cheers, Will

I think he is talking about the 2 windscreen retaining bolts that hold the windscreen onto the front plastic.

I had my ZG on my bike over 100mph a few times and I never had issues. THe ZG doesnt have that wind lip at the top like the Buell tall screen does and doesnt catch nearly the wind. Personally I dont think you have anything to worry about. If it bothers you that much though. Drill out the ZG retainers get a couple rubber bushings and put a hex head bolt in it with a fender washer on the backside.

Wierd. Granted I have an '06 and I was able to order the kit (I had to pay for it), but they still would order it for me.

I put the kit on my ZG screen as I sometimes run it with a Laminar Lip as well.

The kit is a set of bolts, but also some nice spacers as well. You could just get some 10/32 bolts and rubber backed washers from McMaster Carr and call it a day.

Thanks for the input. My dealer will now order the bolt kit but at a cost of $47!!!!!!! and they recommend that 2 sets by bought for top and bottom..... I will see if the screen loosens up and if it does, then a trip to the local hardware store is in order...

A free "recall" kit is tied to the VIN on your bike. If it did not come with the Tall wind shield (like the XT, XP) then the "factory" will not issue you a free recall kit because your bike didn't come with one OE. Kinda like trying to get a "recall upgrade stereo" for a Ulysses, It never had one to begin with,so no dice. The Tall replacement wind screens, purchased prior to the "recall" date are eligible for a free "recall" hardware kit. You will have to show/document a receipt for the tall wind screen to get it for free. That's how I got mine. '08 Uly. good luck

P.S. You only need one kit for the bottom mounts only. The top ones are never going to "pull" out. The faster you go, the more the top ones are pushed in. ride safe. mike

I had a look at that link..thanks but with postage it still equates to over $40 in NZ dollars..damn exchange rates. I will see how the bike goes without the lower screws and, if needed, will get something from hardware store. I realise that I was pushing it uphill with the recall kit but, as I said, if you buy enough bikes and all servicing done through a dealer, well......all good though.
