Three weeks ago my voltage regulator went out. Luckily, I was close to the dealer and was able to limp my 07 Uly in and have it replaced. I then replaced the fried 77 connector with crimps and shrink tubes. Yesterday, whilst out and about, my engine light came on and I went back to the dealer, who tells me my fan is shot. This bike has 20K miles on it and I love it, but are these signs that things are falling apart or is it just two unlucky but unrelated issues? |

It is possible that the vr took out the fan. I would expect it to take out headlight bulbs first however. I'm thinking that if the vr was allowing the stator to overcharge. It could just as easily undercharge in which case the fan thing is probably unrelated. Just my opinion. |

If there is light at the end of that tunnel, it seems that once these things are fixed, it is fixed. The only reoccurring problem I have beyond wear items, has been the front isolator. I have a long list of things that have been fixed that have been a one time issue on my '06, with now 37,000 miles. |

I have to agree with Etennuly. Everything I've fixed has stayed that way except for the VR, but the stator was the real culprit as it was wiping out the VR and my headlight bulbs!! I think the early bikes suffered from vendor quality issues. They seemed to have improved many of the parts. Just look at all the upgraded part numbers. |

Does the VR go bad or when they diagnose does it read bad because the #77 connector is bad, and there is nothing wrog with the VR? Or when the connector goes bad, then does the VR goes out as a result of the bad connector? Also is this a problem with the Lightnings? |
