I'd say your just in the need for a challenge. If you've never done a SS1000 or some other LD ride you should try it. It isn't all about the ride but the planning that goes into it. where to gas and eat and pee and keep making miles. once you have the basic SS1000. plan a instate one staying in the boarders of one state. Pick and big state and then get smaller. Once the 1000 mile rides are old hat try a BB1500. 1500 miles in 24hrs That was a truly hart breaker and butt. Missed it by a few hundred miles. My body just quit on me. No matter what ride you do planing it gets the motivation up. I'm on to a trying ride next but have not been able to ride much but the planning is keeping the fire to ride going.

I've been riding for 38 years and I fully understand the wax and wane of interest in bike riding.

The first several years I bought a new bile very year and that was a big part of the continued interest. With bikes costing so much more, and the actual number of models that I have any interest in yet alone able to comfortably sit on at my tender age of 54 in a continual decline I find that I'm losing a bit of desire to ride.

All I do then is park the bike(s) for a while and then the desire to ride surely returns. Even then its not like the unbridled enthusiasm that I recall 20-25 years ago.

My style of riding is shorter trips due to various aches and pains I have. But even then I can get full enjoyment from a 30-35 mile ride. I'm fortunate to have a lot of curvy scenic roads without any real car traffic within my area to enjoy.

I'm sure I will always have a bike tucked away in the garage for those times when the gotta ride bug hits.

Okc99,
My advice is to take a long ride. Say, a couple thousand miles or so. If you have ever really loved to ride you owe it to yourself.
If the magic aint there after the ride, give it up. Sell the bike and buy a mustang or somethin.
Makes me sad just to think about it.

LIFE IS SHORT. RIDE HARD AND LEAN MUCHO!!!

I had a problem with 'Periods of Diminished Interest' ... so the wife dressed like a hooker, put on a black wig and called herself angel and... oh wait, wrong forum.

"Pure Adrenaline"!
Hell, just riding to work this morning
I had three idiots try to run me over.
One jerk put on his brakes for no reason.
I guess the semi didn't see me.
Some nut came across three lanes to exit.
Every day is a pure adrenaline pumping
thrill ride. How can you be bored?
Move to Dallas, leave the Oklahoma sticks!

I haven't 'ridden' since MBV. I mostly commute. It's not the same.

Bmwdavid,
I think I can speak for more than a few of us when I say that you probably have a few great stories you could share with the rest of us given your long history of riding.

Johnboy - I thought the Blonde wig was for "Angel" - the Black wig for "Bambi" ?? I'll have to go back and look at the script. Gotta admit the snow this year definitely diminished my interest - particularly when I dropped the KLR in the driveway. Kenda knobbies no match for a foot of snow - but thought I'd try, just for the heck of it. Very short trip. j

okc99 - buy a tuber.

you'll have to stay on top of the maintenance which is a great way of breaking up the monotony.

XB: ride, ride, ride, ride

Tuber: ride, wrench, ride, wrench

: )

1125R: Ride, fill up tank, wrench, ride, recall, fill up tank, ride, recall, ride, wrench, fill up tank

Honda: Ponder if the gas has gotten stale since you last rode it, turn key on to find dead battery, turn key off and leave the bike till next year.
