I have a problem with placing my key in the gas cap of my Uly. The key I am using is a copy since my last key was broken in the gas cap. The new key is getting hard to bring out after the cap is locked. Is there a way to get around the key in the gas cap. I have heard of people making it to where you do not need a key for the seat lock but don't remember anything for the gas cap. Any help would be good. I am leaving in June to drive to Chicago and don't want to get somewhere filling up and not be able to leave. Thanks, Brian |

Check out the keyless caps available at Grandstand Designes. They are a sponsor here and Pete the owner is a good guy to boot. I have them on most of my Buells and am saving to get two more. |

Try polishing the key first, making sure there are no sharp edges. |

Also, dri-slide cable lube has worked well for me in the past on both XB and tuber locksets - it keeps the tumblers lubricated nicely. |

Geeze - people make things complicated. Find your key code, call your local dealer and order a new freaken gas cap, and maybe a key while your at it. How much could that cost? |

Oh I don't know, something like $110.55 for the gas cap. I don't have the part number on hand, but it was about $20 for a replacement pair of keys last time I bought them. |

I have found that dry graphite works very well and will not attract dust. You can pick up a small tube at any hardware store. |

Since the key works I would look at the the last cut on the key. It may be limiting the depth of the key insertion or allowing it to go too far. Try a very light file on the last groove (near the rubber part of the key) if you picture the process the last groove as you insert the key limits the penetration. I have had many keys made where a few strokes of the file made them perfect. |

Try turning the key slightly one direction or the other from the locked position. Sometimes mine will go just enough past the locked position where the key is hard to remove. Just a thought. BC Steve |

Actually, I just ordered a 1125CR cap and it comes with a key (maybe 2?), and it costs around $60. I was told if the distribution center didn't have them in stock and ready to ship then the DC could order it from the vender with a specific key code. |
