I bought my 2007 Uly a little less than a month ago and I've been keeping track of the mileage, fuel cost, etc, My intown mileage was hovering around 42MPG. This past weekend was my first opportunity to "burn the gunk out". There were severe thunderstorm warnings in effect when I woke Sunday morning so I suited up and rode toward the edge of the warning area. I had a great 140 mile ride and a drastic temperature drop when I rode through the accompanying front. I rode some of my favorite twistys in a light drizzle and then dropped out on the interstate for about a 45 mile blast averaging 85MPH. I saw the yellow light on my way home this evening and filled up at my normal pump. My mileage had risen to 47+MPG. I'd be extremely happy if this continues. Cheers, Will I'm assuming this is due to the motor beginning to break in now at about 1500 miles |

Thanks Tag. I'll look forward to even better mileage. What surprised me was the 5+MPG increase during a more vigorous tank of gas. Maybe I should turn it up a notch for better mileage? Cheers, Will |

Above 80 you will notice a significant hit in fuel economy, mostly because of aerodynamics. The bike will burn more gas to compensate for wind resistance. You can break 75mpg if you slow down a bit and aren't so aggressive with the throttle. I will wait for Ft_bstrd to chime in how he got best fuel economy wringing it out, but he was doing like 5mph. |

FYYFF, I get my best mileage in the twisties riding aggressively, and that is still only 43ish mpg with an 08. |

Gas mileage on my 09 XT is coming up a little bit with each tank. Last ride was 200 miles and got just over 43 mpg. Lots better than the 37 I started with. |

My 08 is averaging 32mpg. I think I need to go get the latest reflash. I have been keeping it up there in the revs to try and help but doesn't seem to be helping. |

Just took my '09 XT in for first service. 2500km, did a 400km trip last weekend @ 60-80mph with passenger and bags and got 50mpg. |

I get about 48 on my 07 Uly but I have the sidebags and ride like I'm being chased by a priest with a hard on. |

Regarding good mileage in the twisties- I've noticed that with a car too. I figure one thing that may be involved is altitude. As you go up in elevation and there's less oxygen the fuel injection cuts fueling to compensate (just like pilots manually do on small airplanes). The other thing is you tend to be accelerating uphill at near WOT (the conditions under which a spark ignition engine is most efficient), you're typically not going very fast (low aerodynamic drag) and then you're coasting downhill (when the engine is using almost no fuel, maybe actually no fuel depending on how the ECM reacts). The combination of those 4 things evidently makes for very good fuel mileage. |

In the late 70 I drove a Datsun 1200 (w/carburetor) in the hills of East Tennessee. Got 45 mpg. I always get great mpg in the hills. |

Svh: Doubt it will help. My '08 is up to date on reflashes and still gets around 33mpg. That 25th Anniversary badge must create a lot of aerodynamic drag, or maybe it has a weird effect on the space-time continuum. |

The ugly XB fender on the XT increases drag, switch to the beak! |

It's true. The beak is way cooler, but I'd feel sort of poserish putting it on the XT since my idea of going off-road is pulling into my driveway. |

""I get about 48 on my 07 Uly but I have the sidebags and ride like I'm being chased by a priest with a hard on."" Boy, doesn't that bring back memories as an alter boy. . |
