I have the strada brackets installed and the stock windscreen. I now have 2 cracks near the top mounting holes on each side. Only only had 1 before a ride on Sunday, it was very windy out. Anyone have similar experience? |

No cracks for me, but I am using one of Strada's tall screens, and on a hero blue flyscreen. |

I have about 8,000 miles with my strada brackets. No cracks what so ever on my shield. A guy at the Buell Demo truck told me to not over tighten mounts to a windshield. That might be the cause. |

I thought of the tightness thing. I'll check that later. |

When I used to ride a V-Strom, I remember a few other Strom owners with cracked windshields and the culprit was their over-zealous tightening of the mounting bolts. |

You might try drilling a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it from traveling. |

I had a set of the first type of Strada's mounts and my standard screen developed a crack at one mounting hole. I was happy with the performance, but not the aesthetics, so I took them off and fitted a Laminar Lip to the same screen. The crack hasn't gotten any worse in the past 12 months. |

Checklist: drill 2 small holes in each to prevent and loosen the bolts.

Have brackets with a 16" Parabellum - 1 year & 10K miles - no cracks. Just snug the bolts down - no need to crank 'em like a flywheel nut. They don't tend to loosen up on their own. j |

Hi, Adam, you need to be careful not to over-tighten the mounting fixtures. I use rubber washers and Nylock nuts so you just need to fix the screen using just enough tightness to prevent any movement. |

I have new palmer brackets with factory short screen cracks developed after about 1000 miles. The salesman at the dealership said the short shield appears to be made of thinner material than the tall one and that may be the problem. |

Just wondering for those with the cracks, are they on the windshield or the flyscreen? Just trying to clarify. I will be putting my old short screen on soon. |

On the windshield. There's no real movement on the flyscreen. It's bolted solid. |

The Buell screens are quite brittle as they are injection-moulded acrylic I think. The short screen is the same thickness as the tall one but doesn't have flattened mounting points like the tall one has. This means that the area around the holes is curved so if they are over-tight the screen will definately crack! I must emphasis again that it is vital not to over-tighten the screen fixings. I did think about using threaded rubber inserts (as used on a lot of fairing mounts) but wanted something more robust because the Uly is a fast bike! If the fasteners are tightened solid then please slacken off so they are just tight enough to take out the slack in the screen movement. |

On my last long trip, I tried all six screen positions, each for about 100 miles, to determine which worked best. Since installing the brackets and screen, I had it positioned on the lowest position and tilted back (toward the rider). After experimenting, I've found that the highest (tallest) position tilted back (toward the rider) works best for me. But in this position, the entire assembly vibrates like crazy at idle. I'm afraid something will eventually fail. I'm using a Strada windscreen too but can't recall whether I purchased the short or tall screen. I think it's the short screen. Tipsy |

I took my first ride with the Strada brackets installed today. I have the tool free style. Buell tall shield (XT). I have the shield in the lowest position tilted to the most forward position. What a difference it makes! No buffeting at my helmet at all. Plus, in this configuration I can clean my windshield and flyscreen without removing anything. Great product! |

Thanks Rwven! I do offer a Bracing Kit if you do experience screen wobble - doesn' normally occur with the shorter (or XT) screen though - did you install the foam-rubber pads behind the top fasteners? (Message edited by strada on May 10, 2009) |
