I have an 06 Ulysses XB12X. The guy who owned it before me MUST have been inseam challenged because he switched the "stock shock" for what I ASSUME to be the Lightning shock. As a result the bike is noticeably shorter than stock.

So here I am, wishing I had a Stock Uly shock and wondering... there MUST be someone out there with a bike they wished were a little shorter and I have one that I wish were a little taller... Wanna trade?

I live in Southern Maine so IF you are looking for a shorter Uly and are local to me even better, but even if you are not (and there is a way we can work this trade) give me a shout! I Love the bike, but would really like to sit a little taller in the saddle - so to speak.

Blue is the normal XB Lightning and Firebolt, assuming its a Buell spring and not a aftermarket. Possible he did the same thing up front too.

I'm am assuming it's a Stock Buell spring, but wouldn't bet my life on it. I do know however that it fits nicely under the seat and the result of it being there is a "lower than I would like" seat height.

Since I have read many messages about people complaining about how "tall" the bike is I thought I could help out at least one person and help myself at the same time...

We'll see.

I am also in the looking to go taller group. I got a 06 SS suspension setup, and its too short. Looking at either a 09 SS, STT, or XT swap.

LOL looks like we might have something here... a national clearing house for swapped out suspensions...

Seriously though, I'll be happy to just get mine back to stock without it costing me "all outdoors"! A new "Stock" Uly suspension is nearly $500 if you do the work yourself. I have seen "custom" shocks online (Penske? and someone else starting with W - darned old-timers disease) but I am certain those go for even MORE greenbacks - of which I have FAR too few...

Good luck!

What is the seat height on the SS bike with the Uly seat? I need something like this!

Buell.com says the XT is 30.7". My bike is a hair lower than the XT based on my "sit on bike and compare" test. Buell lists my old SS as 30.5" seat height, that sounds about right.

There is a 06 XB12SS with Uly tail for sale in the classifieds.

Last time I checked, my camera was at home, I am at work, I got no way of magically porting the data off the CF card : )

If I was smart, I would of stuck the card in my computer on the way out the door, and then remotely controlled my computer and processed them.

To be honest Glen I have no point of reference. The bike has nearly 10k on the odometer, but I have only owned it a couple of months - and I am anything but a mechanical Guru.

I can say that there is no visible damage to the belt thus far, and hey, what's the belt tensioner for if not to maintain the right tension on the belt... assuming that it's properly adjusted.

I know that this is barely an answer to your question, but it's the best I have to offer.

On the belt tension, we've had several people state that they believe that the tension is higher at full rear suspension extension as opposed to compression. For instance, Dr. Gregg's rear belt snapped when he had a parking lot get-off which instantly unloaded the rear suspension.

maybe it gets tight both ways, with the wife on back if we hit a dip in the road and compress the bike, i can actually feel the teeth of the belt meshing with the sprockets.. feels a little like rumble strips.

that tensioner should be spring loaded.IMO

As it happens Glen, you can get one of those... (Spring loaded belt tensioner)

Never tried it as you might guess, but I did come across this...

Only reason its not muddier, I didn't dump it in the mud. She sunk straight down : )

I took it for a spin to shake off the dirt, and ended up passing a GSXR. It was funny, watching him dodge clumps of flying mud mid turn : )

Froggy, your bike looks awesome!

I have a too tall Uly, and have been wanting to put SS suspension on it. Maybe we can work something out. Are your forks the stock Uly forks or are they short too? Mine is an '06 and I live in TX.

Everything suspension related is still stock SS parts. I considered an X swap but it is too tall for my preference. I can handle the X fine, and I did great for the 6 months I had one, but it is nice being able to put a foot down and not worrying about not getting a good grip. I dumped mine a few times doing basic things like making a U-turn and accidently stepping on some loose gravel.

New? Do you have forks too? I'm finding that they are the harder of the two to acquire.
