Well it ought to be. Buell should, as F_skinner already wrote,

" What seems more likely; changing a very successful platform (like the Uly) or taking the 1125 frame and motor and changing the bodywork and some ergos to make a Sport Touring bike? "

Considering that many of us rarely leave the road, the 1125SPT would do just nicely. As long as it had a comfortable seat, more upright seating than the current models have, and good wind protection, I'd probably give it a go. Buell would hopefully figure out how to wring out more mpg or go all out and make it a flex fuell bike. E-85, E-10, regular, premium.

Bugger you EG, you had me! For a split second, I was kicking myself for freeing FB from his Uly. My next thought was along the lines of a trade-in. Finally I wondered if they'd have it at any demo rides this summer. All that rolled thru my head between clicking and loading.

Oh well, I'm sure we'll hear it here first if anything along those lines develops in the near future. As for me, I'm off to get some free shwag and burn some non-SPT 1125 demo rubber.

You know, with all the hybrid home-built XB variations we've seen here, including R tails on S's, S tails on R's, R fairings on Ss's and Ulys, and every variation in between, I'm kind of surprised nobody's grafted a Uly tail section and forks onto an 1125 yet.

Riding the 1125 is probably too much fun to let wrenching get in the way.

I'm with you, Hughly--almost shocked that nobody has modded the CR to an, umm, CX?? Doesn't seem that'd it would take anything more than you mentioned...

Just a little more cash, and I'd do it. Local dealer is trying to clear out 08 1125 models at $8995.

Frames are totally different, stuff doesn't bolt on. 1125 tails may have Firebolt *bodywork*, but the subframes and frames are completely different. Gotta fabricate if you want to do something like that.

1125SPT or 1125CX. Either one sounds good to me. Anybody else got a better name? I just hope they don't hang a couple of plastic number plates on the CR and call it the TT.

What if they jack up the suspension a bit, black out some of the body parts, put a beak on it, then put the plates on and call it a 1125TT? : )

I'm missing the point. The only thing I really want off the 1125 is the fuel capacity. I can't really think of a time when I want more power than my XT can provide. The first and second gear corners are already sending the front wheel skyward on exit, and even fully loaded, she has no issues maintaining "go directly to jail" speeds. All this with no valve adjustments and no water; I'll stick with my Uly. If I wanted to go tour faster than the Uly is capable of, then I would pick up that bloody ICBM that Kawi markets as a Connie. Extra fuel cap would be a plus. Not a fan of liquid cooling? What about a lower first gear for 'fire roads'? How about the fact that'd it would be the last bike I would ever buy.

Wait, that's what I already said about the Uly...

I did a demo ride on an 1125CR last Friday Morning. It was set up with the taller bars, so it was much more comfortable than with the Cafe bars. TSI H-D/Buell had a really good route (about 20 miles)through the Connecticut hills for the Demo ride, and I was able to get a good feel for the bike. The Uly is so much better at real world motorcycling, that it was no contest. The Uly made better power where I run my engine (4,000-5,000 RPM), The Uly is so much more comfortable, that there's no comparison. And, crazy as it sounds, the Uly engine sounds a lot better than the Rotax engine (mechanically).
If they make an 1125 ST, I don't think I'd buy one.

The only problem with the Uly engine is that you have to bang in off the limiter constantly. There's no "headroom" on the motor. If you want some go-go, you have to beat the ever lovin' poo out of it.

Riding a twisty road and trying to run a nice steady pace....say 60mph. Well...that sucks on the Uly as 2nd gear has the engine revving like a banshee. You have good drive out of the tight turns, but you have to snick up to third for even a modest straight, then downshift back to second for the turn as 3rd won't give you enough drive out of a slow corner, and if it's hot outside and you lug the Uly motor....PING PING PING PING. Is all you'll get.

That's where I think the 1125 motor would shine. You could keep it in one gear and use the wider rev range to hold a shift.

I can remember when I had my FJR1300...I could ride that bike from 35mph to 90mph in 3rd gear and never have to shift. It was insane fun in the twisties except for the fact that it weighed 635lbs.

Give me the the Ulysses with the 1125 motor and I'd be a happy guy. Anyone who says they don't need more power...well, you can have as little as you want...just don't open the throttle. But for those of us who want more, the current engine leaves us out in the cold.

The 1125 mill would be the best of both worlds. Don't want the power, short shift. Want big power....wind that baby out and hold on.

The only thing I really hate about the 1125 is that they don't shake at idle. When I am out with the sportbike guys, they mock me when we are stopped at red lights by shaking like they got MS or something.

I remember the last time I went riding with sportbike guys. It was a ride to Graves Mountain in rural Virginia...they blasted down the straightaways, leaving me in the dust, but got scared in the curves. I caught up. Then, as we arrived at the mountain park and the big folk festival going on, the ride leader on his 998 couldn't find any parking for the row of Ducatis and Ninjas and Hurricanes (just kidding, there weren't any Hurricanes) and CBRs and GSXes. I pulled out of line, crossed a strip of dirt and gravel, zipped through some tall grass, down a steep hill, and parked on an abandoned tennis court. One of the other riders said, "I bet your bike was glad to see some off-road, eh?" Oh, and I also opened up my LUGGAGE and locked up my jacket, gloves, and helmet.

I didn't stay there long, and made the ride home solo.

I was at TSI on Saturday morning and also Demo the CR but the one with the clubman bars. Ouch, they really should make the taller bars standard and the clubman an option. Very nice bike. Never had it over 6K but dam this bike has power. Nothing under 3 grand, it does not like to be lugged that is for sure. Also with the clubman bars I was so far forward I could not read the gages ,which they should out on the ULY imo,.which I liked, much better then the ULY's.
To bad the loop they did was pretty straight, I know some great roads around there. I was told they can only make right hand turns, must be an insurance thing or NACAR..
Anyways I liked the bike but will not be trading the Uly for one.
One more thing that was cool you good fill out a form on your feed back about the bikes you rode. Plus I got a T shirt and a tire gage which is always nice.}

+1 Chad, on the rpm headroom and not trading the Uly in.

+1 Crusty on the sound/feel lacking character. Still sounds like a tractor tho, that's good.

Finally put a CR thru it's paces last night since I just HAD to have a new bike lock. Neither was what I'd expected, but not necessarily in a bad way. Sixth gear is a good idea, although at 60 it still only sits at about 3k.

Definitely not the frame setup for a Uly-conversion though... Guess it'll hafta wait.

I've not ridden a CR yet, as I know if I do, I'll end up buying one.

I really enjoyed the 1125R I rode at Barber. Being tall, I can't get behind the windshield anyway, so I'd prefer the CR, especially given it's lower gearing.
