Has anyone figured out a mod to have both headlights on when in Bright mode.

Yes, do a search for it, there is hundreds of threads on it. The easiest way to do it is to put the low/high switch right into the middle. That tends to be a pain in the ass to do till you get used to it. The next best way is more permanent, you go under the flysceen, and there is 4 wires going to the headlights. Lowbeam, Highbeam, Position, and Ground. Just cut and splice the lowbeam wire onto the position line. If you are really good you can remove the pins from the connector and re-arrange them.

Yes, I just did it. It's a matter of switching two wires at a connector. I used a jewelers screwdriver to pop the contacts in the connectors loose. Off the top of my head I do not recall the wire color codes but one of the folks with a better memory than I should be along to help you soon...

Nope. The high and low beam are on the same fuse if I recall, and the position light is on the accessory fuse with the heated grips and accessory outlets. It will be fine. : )

You just switch the O/W and the yellow at the headlight connector.Easy and cheap.
Make sure its on low beam when you start the bike.

Switch the Yellow and Brown wires in the harness under the flyscreen. Too easy. Just remember that you will not be able to use the park position because one of the headlights will stay on and your battery will go dead.

I did this mod and now I'm blowing the #5 fuse for the lights? This also will not let the starter run? Bike is an 09 uly xt.
Not to high jack your thread but any help will be appreciated!

You really fudged something up, you sure you didn't splice wires with the starter? : )

Go back to stock setup, does it work then?

There should only be 4 wires.
Orange/white = City Light
White = High Beam
Yellow = Low Beam
Black = Ground

There is no way to mix them up that would cause a short.

Thats all that was there. BUT I keep blowing #5 fuse 2 things won't work, the High Beam will not come on and the starter won't turn until I replace the #5 fuse? This makes no since to me!!!!@

The #5 fuse is only for the lights. It should not affect your ignition at all. Does the fuse blow when you turn the key on? Or only after you thumb the starter?

The #5 fuse also energizes the starter solenoid. When you hit the starter button the starter relay sopens the lighting circuit and closes the starter solenoid circuit. This may be a clue....

That i'm not sure.
It must be when I hit the start button. Because everything works fine when I shut the bike off. but when I go to start the bike the hi beam won't work and the starter won't turn. I just not sure how these 2 problems are related.
when I get time today, i'll check out the wiring.

I just balnce the toggle switch between hi and lo and thus have both lights on. I put a little white dot at the spot. No problem with my Uly or Fiance's Scg

I did the mod a while ago, and have Hella 55w driving lights wired with their relay fired by the highbeam wire. Lo beam = 1 light like normal; high beam = four lights. No issues at all (yet). Voltmeter shows good charge all the time, even idling with high beam on.

According to my '06 owner's manual fuse 5 is the "accessory" fuse and wouldn't cause it not to start, It must be different in the XT. I can't find a fuse that would just kill the start & H-beam in my '06 service manual, I would love to have a copy of the XT diagram but I know you can't post the copy-righted page on this forum. Maybe you could send it in a PM?
I have thought over the use of the O/W wire for always-on L beam and decided it is not a good idea. That wire gets it's supply through the key-switch and that extra current needed to lite-up the bulb may shorten the life of the key-switch. A better way would be to tap into the blue wire that goes to the connector for the left-hand control. This is the lighting circuit wire coming off the lighting fuse. Your key-switch park-light function would work as it should. The splice should be on the main harness side of the connector so replacing the switch cluster would be easier if ever need be.

On the XT the starter solenoid and the headlights are on the same fuse. The starter solenoid pilot relay turns the lights off when you thumb the start button.

Also on the XT the O/W wire is fed off of the key switch, but the only things on that circuit are the turn signals, the license plate light, and the tail light all low current draws. I have not heard of a single key switch failure that can be traced to the low beam conversion.

Wired mine for both headlights on for high beams this evening. The directions were a big help. Switching out the wires at the connector is the way to go. Although even with my new middle-aged guy reading glasses I had a hard time figuring out what I needed to do to release the wires from the connectors.

I took the front sprocket cover off and taped every wire that didn't have a wire cover on.( could not find any bare wires)
My son and I rode about 6hrs today with a dozen or so starts with no fuse blown.
I pretty sure the problem was/is in that cluster of wires behind said cover.
I think there was a recent post on these wires shorting out, but it caused another problem.
Anyway I'll see if that fixed the issue this week.
