Here is another look at the long term reliability. Chris Carr has put 16K on a Uly in just a few weeks. He has made this run 3 times that I know of on the same bike.

I believe that his best time was 102.5 hours. The last trip was dorked up by food poison and the south Florida Huricane.

2007 Uly... 32000+ miles... 19 states... 4 provinces... mostly alone.

Rode to Alaska last spring and when I got back the right side rear wheel bearing was gone... water in the hub. Only other replacements were a latch on the top case and a headlight bulb all under warranty.

I carry a spare belt, tire plug kit, air compressor, some tools, tape, ties, etc, cell phone and roadside assistance through AARP motorcycle insurance.

I have no fear riding my Uly anywhere by myself.

The Uly is a prime high milage bike. I have done many long distance trips with no issues that the BRAN couldn't take care of, belt breakage at 37,000 miles. The buell parts are cheap enough to have them on hand if they do break, belt, clutch cable, voltage regulator, break and clutch levers, wheel bearings. Looking to go on a long trip? All those parts fit in the trunk or have a them packed in a fedex box and ready to ship on a moments notice from a trusting freind or family. With proper care and forward thinking on maintenance this bike will never leave you stranded.

BTW I bought my ULY in Fairbanks AK. It will do 400 miles north of Fairbanks and back for the 1000 miles service in the first weekend of ownership.

Last summer took trip from NC to west coast and back. EXTREME high heat, high altitude, ROUGH trails, long slabs, two up, and the ULY NEVER even coughed. Last leg was 800+ miles on last day to get home, and felt as fresh when I got home as when I had started out. Good luck with your decision, but if you find a BETTER bike, let us all know.
