I don't do a lot of riding at night, but wanting a cheap upgrade to improve night vision, I poked around the web and found some favorable reviews on the Philips X-Treme. Of course, they weren't the kind that I could just walk in to Shucks and buy; that would have been too convenient. I did more research and found an online source, Powerbulbs.com. I took a highly scientific approach in taking my before and after photos by picking grease spot on the floor (Ok, so I was more concerned with the installation than taking a methodical photo comparison). I've had them for a week and do notice an improvement; it's not the kind of upgrade you could get with a HID but it was a noticeable improvement. I wouldn't say they're the claimed 80% more light as written on the box (maybe 30%-50% brighter, whiter light, and spreads more evenly), but I'm happy with the results. I was surprised how quickly the reseller was able to ship them from England. Overall, a decent upgrade for those who don't ride a lot at night and/or are looking for a cheap upgrade to improve night vision. First picture = stock. I just thought to share a brief review with my fellow Badwebbers. Here's the link to the bulb: http://www.powerbulbs.com/philips-xtreme-extreme-power.asp?cat1=37&cat2=73

How much for both bulbs with postage? HIDs are only $80 shipped, but a little more labor (1 hr?) to put in. I call that 1 hr of "fun time". |

Sanjuro - Whats the wattage on the Phillips bulbs? They certainly do look brighter. I, like you, made connector pin swap to get both lights on in hibeam mode. Someone posted a concern about doubling the amps on those small wires when installing 100 watt bulbs. You heard of any problems associated with that ? j |

The link claims the bulbs to be 55w, good thing since the XB headlights apparently can't take a lot more heat. What side cases are those Sanjuro, how about some side pics and of the frames? |

@Jphish, yup, they're 55w, no fumes of burnt plastic yet. @Xbimmer, those are the Givi E45 cases. They've held up to a ton of abuse. It's saved the bike from a tip over with only minor scratches to the case. Fits a full face helmet with room to spare.
