Hello. I was out riding yesterday and i noticed that my belt in one place has wore more than the rest of the belt, when i look at it on the back sprocet. There is 6000km on the bike. in the manual it says its normal for the film to wear down but this seems to be in one place. there is no stones etc in its way. Is this a problem or is it ok. how long does a belt last anyway. Thanks David | ||

Hi David, It's difficult to tell with out seeing the belt. Will you post some pictures? The belts last a while. It's variable as to exactly how long. 6000km would be an extremely short belt life. I would be surprised if there was a problem, but that doesn't mean there isn't. I replace mine about every 20k miles just so I don't have to worry about it too much. It's never bad to have a spare belt. You might want to get one just to have around. It lessens the amount of worry you have to expend on the current one. | ||

Some belts on some bikes wear on the edges either next to the sprocket or on the outer edge. It shouldn't affect belt life or performance. Some people are just lucky | ||

Belt life will vary depending on many factors, and a little bit of it is luck too. My belt broke at 50,000km, and Dr_greg had about 80,000km on his when it broke, and it only broke due to a parking lot accident. Others have reported breaking a new belt before leaving the dealer parking lot. | ||

Does the 08xt have the new and improved belt that has been talked about? Also I had some wear on the outside of my original belt, it was minor. I swapped it so that I could use it as a spare if needed. The new belt I put on does not show the wear on the outside like the other did. | ||

Pso, check the part number on your belt, G0500.1AKD is the old belt, G0500.1AKE is the new improved belt. | ||

Buy the new one, swap it on next time you change your tire. Keep the old one as a spare. New belts are a bit of a pain to put on, but broken in ones just plop right on. The old belt will be easier to put on if you are on the side of the road. |
