I was thinking of installing the Kuryakyn LED volt meter but I am electrical inept. So I am looking for ideas on how to do the wiring. Any ideas would be appreciated!! |

Just splice into the wires behind the power outlet. Red is positive, black is ground. |

+1; perfect place to do it. The power outlet is switched from the ignition key so it only receives power when the bike is running. |

That's how mine is wired. A really good place for the meter is on the upper triple tree centered just in front of the handlebars with the wires routed straight forward behind the instrument cluster. The LED's are pretty bright at night and I found that mounting them in that location seemed to work best (visible but not distracting). |

Thanks everybody for the help. Ok, here is where the inept part comes into play. How should I splice the meter wires into the power outlet wires? |

Look for a product called Posi Tap, or something like that. It is about as simple as you can get. Available at Walmart or possibly Radio Shack. Very easy. |

Perfect timing. Mine is in-transit and will arrive tomorrow. Thanks! |

I have tons of stuff already tapped into the power outlet; I put my meter wires into the circuit for gauge lighting. Also ignition switched, and the gauge doesn't "draw" anything, it just "reads" it, so no worries about gauge lighting going out. I also mounted it to the triple tree, between the bars and the gauges. One piece of scotch tape over the lens and a couple swipes with a '44Magnum' magic marker to "tint" the faceplate, and it works great without blinding me I can even still see it with the Buell handlebar bag! |

I put a piece of black electrical tape over the photo eye so it is always "dim" which is still bright.
The black tape actually matches the case color better than it looks like it does in this pic. (Message edited by svh on April 19, 2009) |

Is that thing weatherproof? Does it show the voltage while cranking the engine? Price? |

waterproof= yes Voltage when cranking= Mine drops from the green just to the left of the 14 to the other green when cranking. I will take a pic with it lit up to show this. Price= http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/16076.html although I think I paid alot less than that. ~30 or so. |

weatherproof - yep. mudproof - yep winter salt proof - yep I think mine zeroes during cranking because of the circuit I used. If you wire direct to the battery you should get an accurate read during cranking. AND - according to my trusty ol' Fluke, it's actually pretty darned accurate (within .5v). |

Thanks once again for the help. I think I can get this setup now. I'll take some pictures and post them after I get it installed. Johnnylunchbox. Thanks for the Posi Tap suggestion. That was just what I needed. |

I drilled a hole where I mounted mine and you get a neater install. Try to line it up so it is aligned with the gauge cluster. I also recommend you pretreat the surface you are sticking it to with a 3M product that makes it stickier. Available from a body shop. |

Here's where I put mine:
When I first got mine the cover fell off when I tried pressing it to the brake master reservoir, super-glued it back together and it's stayed put and worked flawlessly for almost two years. $40 well spent. |

That front brake mount looks pretty cool. I think I'll copy you |
