Hi,

OK I'm getting ready to replace the triple trees in my '07 with the '08s but before I do I want to make sure that this is the sane thing to do.

For those of you that have done the change like Tootal, Treadmarks and ???, have there been any handling and/or braking issues due to the shorter trail?

I've had head shake on my stock '07 in curves and COLD weather (thick fork oil) initiated by sand and am wondering if the shorter trail has caused similar or other scenarios where the front end got unstable.

I do want the easier garage and narrow road turnarounds for sure.

Appreciate your feedback.

I have had no negative impact from the change - in fact I cannot tell the difference before and after. Mind you I swapped trees almost immediately after purchasing the bike, but to me its all good.

Nipsey,
I'd like to know, to the nearest inch, what the diameter of circle your bike can make with those 08' triples. My 06 triples just make the 20 ft diameter MSF Basic Rider Course U-turn box painted line to painted line with nothing to spare. So the 06 does a 20 ft diameter circle. How much diameter is shaved off with the 08 clamps? I understand that those that have made the swap have no regrets but it would be much more informational with some hard data on how much is gained with the newer triple clamps. Reading how nice its is isn't going to get me to unhinge the wallet near as easily as someone telling me that 20ft circle goes down to a 16ft u-turn diameter. Thanks to whoever can provide this info. No guessing please.

I made the swap a little over a year ago after putting just under 16K on the stock setup. 10K since, and I'm very satisfied with the results. It is worth the effort and expense. I regret I didn't do it sooner.

Electroglider, I can turn around in my garage now. It was a major pain before. I love it and would do it again in a heartbeat. Between that and the XB9 primary swap it makes the Uly an even more joy to ride. Hell it use to be worse moving around the garage than the Road Glide! That ain't right!

Diameter = 225 inches or 18.75 feet, I actually think it can be a little less as I noticed the connectors from my PIAA's might have been in the way of full lock.

I'm just getting ready to do forks on my 06 Uly. Does anyone have instructions/dimension for the lock pin?

Nipsey,
Thanks. Less than a 1 1/2 ft doesn't seem like enough to warrant the expense and time involved. UNLESS those lights really hampered full lock and actually it is closer to 17 feet.
Can you check and redo?

Oldnotbold, I designed my own pin but the dimensions are at work. If nobody responds between now and Monday I'll try and remember to post the dimensions. Here's a picture:

The original pin is 10mm in diameter. The hole in the tree is 1/2" so I made the center section slightly smaller than 1/2" but put o-ring grooves in it and used the o-rings to support and keep any rattling from happening. I can draw a little blueprint and post it for those with fabrication capability.

Nipsey,
Thanks. 225 is 18 3/4 ft which doesn't seem worth the effort. Then again, I haven't tried out the difference in person. I've ridden an 08 but not u-turn maneuvers. Again, thanks.

The o-ring grooves are 1/2" apart centerline to CL. The one on the right is 1/16" from the edge to the CL. This is what I remember but if anybody that has one can confirm that dimension I'd appreciate it. This is made from stainless and I would recommend that too. The drawing is to scale and a little busy but you should be able to duplicate it:
