I know pictures paint a 1000 words, so I will try to post pics when I get home (work badwebbing right now)

I have a 06 xb12x with 4k miles and while changing my oil/filter I noticed some oil spots. I'm hoping someone has thoughts on this. Here goes:
* There seems to be oil residue between the front/rear jugs. Is this something I should be concerned about.
* There is wet oil where the clutch cable enters the motor. Is this primary or engine?
* Of course, the drain plug. Is there a DIY fix for this? Dealer is 100 miles out

Is there any other places I need to be looking for? Its too early for oil leaks.
thx

The clutch cable and drain plug leaks are likely bad o rings. Easy fix. The oil between the jugs may be dripping from the airbox. Pop it open and see if it's messy in there. If there is evidence of oil in the airbox, mop it up and don't be concerned that a gasket is out or whatever.

What he said and the breather tubes that come into the air box will do that if a couple of conditions exist:1. the tubes are sticking up too high or too low. 2. the oil level is maintained too high.

We found out a long time ago the proper oil level is at the bottom two X's of the stick. If the oil level is maintained above that it will be pumped into the airbox over time.

The cable is leaking primary/trans oil at the bottom, mine did it from the start. The lower end of the clutch cable can be sealed up with a couple wraps of rubber waterproof electrical tape. Not the vinyl common stuff, the rubber tape sticks to itself w/o adhesive and seals the gap where the sheath exits the cable end. Problem solved cheap, will last 10K+.

Thanks for all the advice. Badweb proves itself again. I will look at all these things, it all sounds easy enough.
