Test ride results are in; it's still Tango Uniform. I hate being outsmarted by a machine.
According to the book, it's time to pull the starter I believe. It looks like when The Elves built this bike, they put the starter up on a stand and then built the bike around it.
More studying first.

That's one thing I haven't done yet. Relay connection. Seems doubtful but I gotta eliminate possibilities. |

Relay connection is fine.
All the tests still say bad ground so rather than pull the starter at this time, I ran a 10g wire from the starter through bolt to the neg batt terminal.
It works like new.
Next time I have the primary open, I'll look into cleaning the starter mounts in order to establish the factory grounding. |

Unless my memory is fading I believe the maximum voltage drop for the positive side of the starting circuit is to be no more than .3V .49 is still too much. That is almost half a volt. The voltage drop on the negative side should be no more than .1V |

Pqanhead_dan, Just a thought; Try and put a small washer under the bolts on the pos. and neg. terminals on the battery? |

im going to buy some ready made ground pig-tails and ground the bejesus out of everything....i might even install one those old time static straps that drag the ground, like back in the 50s..(not really) |

Ourdee, I've had washers on there since the second day I owned the bike.
I've cleaned every connection pos or neg that has anything to do with the high volt side of the starter system at least twice. The only thing remaining is the ground created when the starter is bolted to the bike. The jumper wire tends to prove it. I'm just glad I got it figured out! Now, bring on the summer. |

My 08 has the connections already dielectric greased but I think there is room for improvement. Last week when I did my HID upgrade I cleaned up the ground by the steering head and also the one on the battery and regreased them. Will get the one by the battery soon but wow what a difference it made. The bike runs smoother and seems to have more ooomph or power. Could just be me but it really does feel like it. Anybody else experience this? |
