I just bought a left over California 08, May 08 mfg date, and told the salesman NOT to let the shop reflash the ECM before delivery to me next week.

I've read previous posts indicating there may be 3 reflashes out there, but cannot recall if a conclusion was reached as to what damage or improvement they each made.

Was a conclusion reached?

Hopefully they will not reflash it, and I can sort out what to do. I hope this one will be compatible with EmcSpy.

Thank,

Husky

Husky- I'm thinking the last reflash was a good thing. The early 08's got miserable gas mileage and IIRC the reflash got them into the same range as the 06's and 07's. Hopefully somebody with first-hand knowledge will speak up.

I did not take mine in for a reflash. It does not get the best fuel mileage, but it does not have lean run conditions either. It runs smooth just the way it should.

I didn't demo my bike long enough to see the gas mileage before the reflash but I had the dealer reflash mine up to the latest release before I picked it up and have gotten just about 50mpg in the first 1600 miles with ABSOLUTELY no driveability problems. (I guess if you try going 25-30 mph holding it at 2100 rpm constant it surges a bit but thats curable by shifting down to the right gear!) Considering it is still tight I think thats real good.

my 08 scg ran like poop before the reflash and it still ran like poop after.. it was an early build date...customer service convinced me that it didnt really run bad and that i needed stronger meds... i sold it instead..

my 08 uly was a late build date and it doesnt run too bad... the dealer told me that there was no reflash available for it..

I am not so sure of this. Everything I have read on this has resulted in people's speedos being about 7% off compared to dead on before the reflash. Now all of a sudden their mileage jumps 5mpg. How do they know that is just not an indicated increase and not a real increase.
Disclaimer - this is just my opinion from reading on the subject. I have a March 08 build date and have not had the flash as indicated by my speedo being dead on with my GPS. I have no surging and bike runs great but I have only got 39mpg on the last few tanks. It is improving though up from 34mpg at first. I only have 2400 miles on the clock. My only problem is not being able to check the oil level and a flash won't help with that.

After re-flash my 08X developed a 4 mph speedo difference. Before flash it was GPS accurate, but now I'm pulling 48-50mpg. Pre-flash fuel MPG was 42-45. When the Uly is cold, it will stall at startup. I simply re-cycle the killswitch and allow it to start again. This it does without hesitation and once it idles for 5 mins I can ride with no other hiccups. This start procedure only occurs when the ambient temp is below 40F. NUTS

NUTS- Thats my bike 100% , TomTom says 68 , speedo says ~72. Stalls once when started under 40 degrees. MPG same as yours.

Nuts,

Same thing here after reflash. There is no need to recycle the killswitch, she'll start right up just by hitting the start button again.

My 2008 XT has Mar 08 stamped on the side. Before the flash, crappy mileage. After the flash, crappy mileage.

I'm talking 35 mpg freeway and 27 mpg city with my bike. And I go the speed limit, maybe +5 mph but never more. Tickets suck.

Its funny about that start up and stall thing when its cold, if I turn the bars several times back and forth after the initial startup it it won't stall if it just sits there it will stall but with a quick push of the button it will fire right back up mines an 08 Uly with 1 reflash I wasn't aware there that there are more.

My current flash calibration id is M31US25y.
This was the reflash I got after my bike was purchased. Not sure if there is a second or third reflash for the 08' models. My mileage is around 37-40mpg.
