It would be way cooler if it had adjustable suspension, would have given it some high tech look.

I still like it.

Yes - I can't rationally argue against better suspension on any bike - but by the same token cornering clearance comes into play before any shortcomings of the suspenders become apparent.

I see it as a sad try to market a bike that has no function to match the hype.

It's got plenty of function - It's a really nice road bike to ride - that's in a retro style.

Not sad. Much pleasure.

I wouldn't trade my Uly for one, but I'd take this one in a heartbeat.

As I have read the heads, pistons, cams and cooler are straight from Buell. The addition of oil cooling lines to the heads and exposing the motor means NO OBNOXIOUS FAN. The front forks are nearly identical that came on the VRSCR Street Rod.

The suspension works very well out of the box. I have only bought 2 bikes which I felt didn't need immediate suspension tuning for my size( 6'1" 285#s). The first is the BMW G650Xmoto which works very good for me solo and OK 2 up with WAY too much gear and people. The other is my XR1200 which is working flawless right now. I haven't even felt the need to dump the factory oil in the forks so far.

I am trying to determine cost and complexity for upgrading to the XR oil cooling system on my Ulysses. Time will tell if I end up making this mod. Maybe in a few years when the Uly needs a topend rebuild.

The XR is very narrow focused. It is no more useless than a scooter, a liter class sportbike, a dirtbike, or a track rat. The XR has the capacity to do a little of everything but if you are looking for and All rounder I believe you are wasting your time and money. The XRs life revolves around being the best Sportster ever produced, best handling ever produced and harkens back to the dir track days of old.

I bought an 883R in 06 for the styling. I bought a vrscr streetrod for the acceleration, braking and suspension. I feel in the XR package I get all of the above in 1 package with better selection of tires than any HD I've owned. The XR to me is a short trip, great handling, and pure fun bike. If you're my size it makes it difficult to ride 2 up so me and the anklebiters will have this one for ourselves. Me and mommy have the Uly.

If you don't get the concept and execution of the XR1200 go take a ride. Just like Buells the ride will explain it for you.

Good Luck

Rich

The idler pulley is from the Buell too. Though I note that the bike still has adjustment slots on the rear wheel for belt tension, so they aren't using the idler for the same thing Buell does.

I would love to have an XR1200 but already have the ULY and the 97 Electraglide and find I pretty much only ride the ULY. If the lust does not diminish then I'll just wait and find one used for a few grand cheaper so it'll be awhile.

Just a guess Jim, but maybe the adjuster just facilitates rear wheel and belt removal and then you adjust clear to the rear before you torque down the axle.

Yeah, I'm with the Want One but wouldn't trade-the-Uly-for-it faction.

Like EG97 I have a great older touring bike (in my case an R100RT) that I pretty much never ride anymore. I think the next ride for the BMW might very well be a ride to the consignment shop.
