I am new to the site, and I tried a quick search to find what I am looking for. I am wanting to lower my '07 X, and I know that the XT forks are also 43mm. Is it possible to order the 43mm fork assemblies and shock for the XT and simply swap parts onto my bike without having to change the triple trees?
I know I will need a new kickstand and possibly front brake line. Thanks in advance

Nop. XT forks are smaller diameter as well.

Hi, Wilbers sell fork springs that are 50mm lower. They come with damper parts for around £89.00 here in UK, (currently $1.37 to £1.00).
Wilbers will also build a rear shock with remote pre-load adjustment to match this for £530.00

I'm not quite sure what Hangetsu's point was above. YES, the parts will swap. The 06 and 07X and the 08 and 09XT all use 43 mm forks. Besides that, ALL the forks, 06-09 X and XT have the same diameter where they go through the triple clamps.

I priced out the parts ~6 months ago and came very close to ordering them then to lower my 07X. IIRC, about ~$1100 for the two fork assemblies and the rear shock assembly (you have to get it complete with spring and pre-load adjuster.

The 06-07 12X has 43mm forks.

The 08-09 12X has 47mm forks.

The 08-09 12XT has 43mm forks.


You CAN swap out XT forks for X forks on an 07 but you can't on an 08-09 because of the difference in fork diameter.

The rear shock is the same 06-09.

FB- the forks will swap on all these bikes. All the forks are the same diameter where they go through the triple clamps. That's why you can put the 08/09 offset triple clamps on a 06/07 Uly as has been posted here several times.

I believe the measurement (43mm, for example) is the outside diameter of the lower male slider, not the female upper piece.

Thanks for all the info guys. Before I spend the coin to do the swap, will the XT suspension alleviate the "see-saw" feeling I have in the corners and the brake dive? How close will it feel to my Lightning?

The see saw feeling is mostly settings. You already have the 07 fork spring. You might want to set the compression damping a little firmer?

I had to stiffen mine up significantly in order for it to feel right in corners and with braking. I have both the front and rear set much firmer in the compression damping dept.

I had the same before I swapped out my front springs.

Swapping out the suspension will help a little simply because you are shortening the suspension travel.

One other option you might try is the STT suspension. Were I going to shorten my suspension, it's the suspension I would choose. Should be a direct swap over.

How much shorter is the STT suspension?

If I'm correct, the Lightning Long suspension should be a straight fit too, (same frame), if you should desire a totally road biased set-up.

The STT, X, XT, and SS all share the same frame. The STT suspension is .44" shorter than the XT.

I think the only minus to going to the STT suspension would be losing the handy remote preload adjuster used on the X and XT. If you don't ride two-up very often (and therefore don't need to make a quick pre-load adjustment), then it's no big deal.

so, is using the buell pro series suspension springs on an X not possible? i assume it must be possible to swap the rear shock spring for a shorter one..

I don't think the race suspension will work with the longer frame.
