I took my wife for her 1st ride on the back of my uly yesterday and she kept sliding forward every time I stopped or slowed down. If she could put more weight on her feet and brace for the stop I think she'd be more comfortable and not keep sliding forward. So, what I'm wondering is if there is any company out there who makes a passenger footpeg relocation kit for the Ulysses. Something that moves the pegs down and forward a little bit. Anyone know of anything? Thanks

My wife has exactly the same issues and refuses to ride on the back of my Uly until I come up with a solution.

I just use the grab bars to keep me from sliding into M2nc.

Some people have had good luck using dirt bike type grip skins on the seat cover. I don't know of the brands, but I have seen the skins, they attach with straps under the seat and are grippy to the touch on both sides.

Maybe the Uly is the same as an XB9R as far as passenger peg mounting is concerned. If so then it is possible to swap the pegs & brackets on the opposite sides, right bracket on the left and left bracket on the right.

There's a little filing to get the detent plates to fit correctly and a little trimming necessary on the underbody panel to clear the bracket. It moves the peg location down and forward about 3 inches.

Kinda dorky looking though but, hey, it works great to keep the passenger happy. My wife is now able to push with her legs to keep from sliding forward.

My wife can hide from me on the back of the Uly. I have noticed that if I exceed her fun meter she'll tactically slide up on me squishing the boys and there's a direct tie-in to the slow down now button.

Sparky - nope, totally different. The Uly doesn't hang 'em from the tail section like the other XBs, they're part of a completely different single rider/passenger footpeg mount assembly.

I bought a set of peg relocation brackets off of someone on this board. I can take pics and email them to someone if you would post them up for me. The wife really loves them, now her legs are not pressed up against the bags anymore.
They are no hindrance to me either.

Wait a week, a friend and I have some all designed on AutoCAD and we are going to run 2 sets off on Monday or Tuesday. One set for me and one for someone on this board to try out and pass around for comments and suggestions. We are trying to cosmetically blend the extension so that it looks like it was designed for the bike. We even have a powder-coater matching the frame color. I'll post up some pics as soon as I have them.

Our trial design will move the footpeg pivot center 2". As the peg is mounted at a 45 degree angle this will move the peg a bit less than 2" forward and 2" downward. The CAD program has the dimension but I don't recall what it is and I'm too lazy to trig it out now. My goal is to stop the crowding of the passengers heel against the saddlebag and provide a little more passenger leg room without crowding the passenger/rider foot area.

Rwven,
I PM'ed you. I'm definitely interested as my wife is highly unlikely to ride again until I figure something out!

An update and a bump to keep this thread from falling into the Archives.

My friend has done a few profile runs on some scrap aluminum and has been tweaking the program to get the profiles right. Due to paying work being run on his Haas mills and life in general he hasn't run a full part yet. We are planning to get together on Sunday morning and run the first two sets.

Bump/Update,

We machined the top sides of three sets today (3RH and 3LH). My friend has made 90% of a fixture to machine the bottom sides, he just has to machine the locating dowels that the peg holes will slide onto. After machining the bottom sides the slot for the Buell peg has to be cut and the prototypes are off to the powder-coaters. The plan is to get them there Thursday or
Friday. I hope to get the prototypes out to the two guys I promised them to early next week for evaluation.

Another option is that Precision Engineering makes Uly pegs with a 2" drop. I gave my wife a set of their Uly replacement footpegs for her Ss for Valentine's Day, and she loves them.

I'm definitely more of a fab-it-yerself kinda guy, however...

I believe that the peg slots on the Uly would take a stock HD peg--is that correct?

Not something I have any desire to do, mind you, but Kuryakyn has a nice peg-relocation set that I think would work and they're wicked adjustable. I used them on my last cruiser, and it made long trips much more enjoyable for the Notthed.

Plus, it'd be a nice opportunity to add some much needed chrome to yer bike.

Crusty,

(My bad, those weren't on there the last time I visited their site, I had even e-mailed them at one point about whether they were going to make something like that....)

Those only fit the rider's position, these extensions are for the passenger pegs.

Here's what we have so far. One more machining operation and off to the powder-coaters.

Crusty,

Those a good looking units too. I like the idea of extra traction from those lugs. For someone wanting to gain a bit of extra leg room they would be the ticket. My wife's beef is that the stock location crowds the back of her boots against the saddlebags, I'm not sure those would address that issue. I might be buying some of their non dropped units to mount on my extensions though, I think my wife would like that large grippy platform.
