Nice installation...makes me start planning to do one too! even if I didn't use it in motion, it gives another fun reason to ride to the top of a windy mountain road, right? Park and chat a while!

The radio is installed and working! The next thing I need to do is find a suitable headset. I have a couple of old ones laying around that I will hack up for this application.

If I was not going to operate while riding this will be all I would need because there is a built in Mic and Speaker in the head of the unit.

Here is the radio head mounted and working.

If it has the pretty much standard HT speaker and mike plugs, there's a headset designed for helmets that sells for around $70 and works pretty well.

Anyone here tried throat mics?
My friend and I were trying to set ourselves up with family band and throat mics.

He shipped off to Iraq before anything was figured out.
it seems to me that throat mics would be the way to go though.

BTW, I took the Buell to Dayton last year (2008) and stayed at the KOA. This is a great KOA, top 2 -3 in the country. Had a
great time and if any are going please let me know. I will be there this year. 3 days of crazyness!

I was looking through some pictures and was wondering, if I was these campers,
what would I be thinking if I walked out of the woods and stumbled on this truck!

Any chance of an update on how the FTM-10R is working in use? How did the ground plane modification work out and the helmet connections?

Going to the Timonium Hamboree today.

I decide to use the bluetooth and am using a blueant system. The FTM works fine. I have no complaints. I do not use it that much. In fact I have only used it while riding one time just to test it out. If you read the reviews at eham.com you will see a lot of complaints about the radio. Most of them are due to operator error in my opinion. In this day of easy license testing most hams using that freq spectrum are not knowledgeable about a great many things.

Have fun at the Hamboree.

I have looked at the Blueant system. Seems like it works well. I also can hear good things about the Scala system. I am probably going to go with one or the other as I see it.

At the show I looked at the FTM-10R and asked a vendor how they were selling. He said they sell better in the Summer when people are outdoors more.

He said the Yaesu bluetooth system did not seem to be completely compatible with other bluetooth devices. I guess this would help them sell their own helmet system which they seem to be working on. I am glad to hear that yours is working ok. I have been on 2 meters more lately since I am driving more and I will miss it as I start to ride more.

The overall show was a little light due to the overcast weather and light rain. It was the first time I was there so I had a lot to see.

I was looking for some 1.5 inch copper ribbon to use as a ground conductor for lightning protection but it was not to be found. What I have been reading lately says that copper braid can have an inductance that would be better to avoid with regard to lightning. Better to use a large surface area copper ribbon in the case of lightning.
