Ordering up a set for my ride from Rhinotire.com, and they have two different ones listed for the 180 rear.

http://rhinotire.com/product.php?t=moto&brand=Pire lli+Tires&model=DIABLO+STRADA

0304-0035 SIZE & RATING: 180/55ZR-17 E, POSITION: REAR, FITS MODEL: FJR1300 224.95

and

0302-0063 SIZE & RATING: 180/55ZR-17, POSITION: REAR 208.95

I am going to shoot them an email and see what they say.

Looks like the E is a harder compound. Longer wear at the cost of traction. Is that what you are reading?

The Z rating is what is important,(that and size) I don't know what the E is for.

Froggy, if you plan on doing any dirt riding, these tires stink big time in the dirt.

I paid $135.99 from Motorcycle Superstore for a Pirelli Diablo Strada Rear Tire 180/55ZR-17 back in Sept. of '08.

The tire prices are reasonable, and it would cost more to get them elsewhere and then sending them to Rhinotire and back.

Ulynut I might hit the forset service roads in Suches next time I am down there, but my bike is too pretty for the rough stuff. I got a discontinued $1k tin can hanging too low to the ground!

Ourdee only difference I see is the letter E and a few dollars, just trying to figure out what exactly the difference is.

I forked over $194.99 for a 180/55ZR-17 Strada at the dealership about an hour ago. Mounting and balancing were a little steep, but in line with what you expect to pay for such services.

Now, if I pick up another nail within the next six months, I am for sure going to invest in a No-Mar rig. Do a few tire changes at home and it pays for itself.

Except with these tires you won't care if you got a nail.

According to Pirelli's product brochure, the "E" spec Stradas are designed for the Yamaha FJR1300 and certain BMW models. They offer no explanation about the specific differences.

I just finished a ride that included a nice grade, Spiral Highway, and went down the Snake river to the end of Hell's Canyon. (Saw four big horn sheep!) With the Stradas I did a dirt road for about 30 miles, and they are fine for me. The main problem with them is they can't move the rocks out of the way so you kind of move around. I just stand up and let them seek. I feel pretty comfortable going 30-35 MPH with them. Overall though the place I would have killed myself was on the paved grade, and I was happy to have such a nice tire. This is a sportbike tire for sure, but when I ride dirt roads I just take it down a notch. I am still smiling from being able to do what I did today.

I went from the 616 to the Strada, so the Stradas feel like banana peels in the mud. Dry packed dirt is no problem though.
Not that the 616s are nobbies, but better than a strictly street tire.
I really like the Stradas, but I want to try the Syncs next time.
