"from what ive read, this Court guy on here has some kind of string pulling abilitys."

He's a good guy and a good guy to know! You might even say He's a "champion of all things Buell." I'm quoting a Mr. Jon Flickenger from a letter he wrote me in response to mine.
People like Court are one of the big things that make the whole Buell experience so much better, so different. I feel very fortunate to have discovered this little known world and to then step inside it. I will never leave.
Dan.

I would not be one bit surprised if the work that's being done in response to Petereid's bag problem results in something very nice for every Buell owner with HB bags. There are a lot of leakers out there. Some riders maybe don't know theirs leak yet. My top box does not seem to leak but the only leak testing I do is riding in the rain.

riding in the rain is all i do to collect water in my cases.
when i wash the bike i take the bags off and wipe them down with armor all so i dont have to get em wet.

seems like it should be a recall, maybe replace the gaskets with ones that work. i thought about trying to make my own with surgical tubing.

It seems like the gaskets would be easy to fix (replace). There is a buttload of weatherstrip/gasket/seals to choose from out there. The trick is to get the right material in the right size. It needs to fill the space properly. The bag lid needs to compress it everywhere. The material needs to be non-wicking. The adhesive needs to be such that the gasket could be replaced down the road a few but not fail under normal use.

Court:
I haven't seen a 100% correlation yet but you might suggest to the Engineers that clamping/latching the Journey sidecase to the tubular framework could also be a source of deflection that pulls the stationary gasket away from the moving mating surface in the case lid. With the weak nature of the latching mechanism holding the case halves together, the Engineers certainly must balance gasket compression to applied force on that latch assembly.

My case leakage seems to vary after demounting and then remounting the individual cases. The left always leaks and the right seems to vary. The left latches "harder" to the frame tubes than the right bag. I'm anxious to see what comes of your work with the factory and will gladly purchase an upgraded gasket kit or other parts intended to fix the problem. As a matter of fact if you would like someone to test prototypes or fix kits I will happily volunteer.

I just wanted to add here that Court and his "contact" at Buell (I didn't want to post his name without his permission) have been doing 110% to get me fixed up with my time restraints.

I want to thank them both for all their help.

All gooder now . . . they were replaced in an effort to get Peter taken care of before he returns to Canada.

In addition, there is an effort starting up to take a look at the gaskets to see if there is a potential way to improve the seal.

Hepco-Becker is of the opinion that it's good enough but there might be a way to improve it.

Would some experimentation from the masses help at all? Or would it just muddy the water?

In good shape now . . . the next step is to engage T&A (I love typing that) to design formal testing protocol. The information that folks provided was very helpful.

That's great news. I'm pleased that the new gasket in my left bag has cut the leaking by 50% or so, but I'd be extra super pleased if the left was bone dry like the top and right cases.
