If I just bought a new 08 Ulysses, and discovered the 3 screws that hold down the interactive exhaust actuator were backed out 1/4 inch, not tightened, should I assume the cable adjustment may be off a bit? I don't like finding loose screws on new motorcycles. But, then again, it was built by humans. Can't be too critical, I'm a human too.

haha, I like the sound of that. Too cold to ride it yet, so not a vibration issue. All I've been able to do is install the tank bag, charge the battery, inflate the tires and set the suspension for my fat a$$. Perhaps this weekend, supposed to be in lower 50's.

I can actually say, with all honesty, not a single fastener has ever come loose on my Uly since new. 2006 24000 miles. I may be lucky but I would bet there are many others who can say the same.

I can top that. 55,000+ miles and no loose fasteners. And I didn't Loctite a single one after removal.

I've lost one T27 screw on the chin spoiler, one T27 screw that holds the airbox cover on, and one rear axle pinch bolt.

All were because I was a dumb ass and forgot to tighten them down sufficiently.

NONE have been lost due to bike vibrations.

Ok, so I torqued them to specs, and will check the adjustment using the procedure in the service manual. I'm just really glad to finally have a Uly, in black, and can't wait for Spring to spring.

DON'T torque the drain plugs to spec (unless you want a new swing arm and primary case).

Yes, I've been lurking here a while and have made note of that tip. Thanks.

I thought that loctite stuff was "optional." Changed the oil, when for one ride, and 2 screws were missing from my chin fairing. :-o

I'm sure if I'd torqued them sufficiently that wouldn't have happened, but I don't have your experience Doc.

I have 11,000 so far on my 2008 and one screw comes loose over and over:
Right rear airbox cover.
The seat keeps it from popping all the way out.
I checked out the screw, the hole and the cover. there is nothing wrong.
Next time, I will just booger it up a little with a hammer to make it more scratchy.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was referring to Uly owners.

In my 2 years and 31k miles I have lost a handful of various screws and stuff, most of them being my fault for not properly torquing them.

Crusty, I got got the WTF look today when I blew by some ricer punk in a Civic. I love it, but at 17 degrees F I had to turn the heated grips onto nuclear. : )

I too have lost the right rear airbox cover screw on my '06.When I bought it,it had been started so many times at the dealer on the floor that the plugs were fouled. The tech's changed the plugs & I assumed did not tighten the screw enough.Other than that nothing has come loose.Except me in the gravel!

Ah yes, the double entendre. It was unintentional but it works.
