Since I have some time on my hands...I figured an "organic" approach to the clutch cable problem would be timely. Plus, for an "American Motorcycles" bike, let's have an "American" bazootie...none of that Indonesian aluminum.

So, here's my "black walnut bazootie"...made from 100% Arkansas Black Walnut...the "Queen of American Hardwoods."

Many coats of urethane varnish, and a topcoat of finishing wax should insure weatherproofing. Yeah, I should cover the screw, but I don't mind a little "mechanical" look.

Nope, I ain't makin' any more...those small parts are dangerous to fabricate! And---just like fractures---I've had my share of shop-related injuries, too...

Now Doc, I am sure you calculated the fatigue limit of that part before you crafted it. After all it will be subjected to the Uly's pogo...I mean idle vibrations.

Very cool Dr. Greg!! The cool thing about walnut is very stable with moisture changes, plus it's so good looking.

You need to make an oil line separator out of black walnut...

How's the healing going?

I've got 4 large black walnut trees in my yard. Lot's of bazooties just from the limbs that fall after every storm.

... I keep seeing "Bazootie" in all the posts. Is that the real name for these things, a nickname, or both?

s the hardware stainless?

Good question...nope. It'll rust like a fiend. I'll replace before using for real.

Did you secure it with brads and a biscuit or just the screw!?

There's a captive nut on the back side.

You need to make an oil line separator out of black walnut...

There's always a wise guy...

How's the healing going?

I'm doin' better. See surgeon a week from Thursday; she'll give me an update. I figure early-mid March (Spring Break...perfect!)

What about TERMITES ???

Arrgghh! You touched a nerve there...we had lots (over 2,000 board feet) of rough-cut Arkansas Black Walnut at my parents' home in SoCal...much of it termite-infested. After their demise in '86-'87 (sigh) when I moved their stuff here in a moving van I had the truck fumigated (after I unloaded everything else).

Doc; a bazootie that pretty deserves Stainless hardware. Let me know what size you're using and I'll shoot you some stainless - Button head cap screw, nut and washer.

Hey, I resemble that remark! Actually I'm feeling a bit old-fashioned these days. Or maybe I need to drink a few old-fashioneds...
