I am not about ready to give up the ease of maint. of my Uly. that is part of the reason that I traded up from a GoldWing and BMW to a Buell. |

hopeful buell will offer the uly with your choice of motor. they still make sport and naked models with both motors hopefully something new in 2010. I think they know a lot of people like the good old 45 deg mil. any way a faster uly would likely land me in jail. |

I have to admit, I will always want more power with any bike I ride. But the reality is, theres NO WAY I could ever use all the power that my Uly had when stock. Yes, the straight roads would be more fun with 146 hp, but my insurance company has already had enough of my monkey business, the police have given me way too many breaks, and there seems to be more and more deer and turkeys around lately. I think its best if a big dummy like me just learns to corner better, and keep the speeds down to a more reasonable insanity. Nice photoshop though. |

Please go back and make those pods the same color as the frame. No need to draw that kind of attention to them. I still like the Cagiva in red better. Sorry Buell fans. (Message edited by dentguy on January 18, 2009) |

The Cagiva sure looks like a bike I could love but I already have trouble getting parts and service for the Buell can you imagine what it would be like for this I wish HD would pull there head out on this. there is no reason and HD only shop shouldn't get parts. but just try it some time |

I still fail to see the appeal of an 1125 motor in a Uly. They're designed for TOTALLY different usage scenarios, and having ridden the 1125 a LOT and owning a Uly...I personally couldn't think of a worse powertrain/intended usage match. Uly - low rpm, slog thru mud, tons of torque type bike 1125 - high rpm, relatively peaky power, not as strong at low revs - a high revving thoroughbred. A new version of the XT, maybe - think 1125cr with Uly tail and saddlebags, for sport touring. But the UlyX? Nope. |

I had a Cagiva Gran Canyon. I had to disassemble the front fairing and remove the instruments to adjust the head lights! The lights were better than the Uly's though. The Italian's are into form over function. Looks good, PITA! |

But where's the luggage and should-be standard gear? Like larger handgrips! Really, Buell should take the hint from Touratech and put taller handgrips on. Sorry, those Cagivas are not attractive to me. They sort of look like 650-powered BMWs...they look anemic...like beginner bikes. I want a big, muscular looking sled. More frame, more fairing, more engine... I'm with you Rat...I haven't ridden an 1125 (YET!), but what I hear is what you said. I went out this afternoon in the balmy 36 degree weather, after catching some of the big event down on the DC Mall, and was reminded again of why I love the current Uly engine. Here's my clueless question of the week: does the Uly have the same 1203cc engine as all the other XBs but just with a different frame/chassis/suspension setup? The Uly 1203 is fast, but is the Thunderstorm 1203 faster in the Lightning, or the Firebolt? Is the Uly just a tall Firebolt? Are the shorter bikes tuned differently for higher street/track performance? Tuesday night - you may see ol' Hooper flying down to DC wearing an ATGATT tuxedo as I head to a couple inauguration events! Anything to avoid the parking nightmare! looks like my next ride will be the DRZ 400, pity Buell missed the 400-450cc dirty bike for release. We now return you to your previously scheduled debate about Cagiva service and parts from H-D |

At a Q&A session, I asked Erik if it was on the agenda to put the Helicon engine into the Uly. After explaining how he launched his Uly into the trees on the trail around his farm, he didn't feel that it needed any more horsepower. |

I will bet good money that Buell will not offer the Uly with 2 engine choices. First off the Helicon will not fit in the space offered on the Ulysses. It would have to be a whole new machine. Secondly Buell isn't going to change their best selling ever motorcycle none too soon. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. I would say for those who want that engine in their ride, "wait for the Cagiva with the Helicon". Just don't hold your breath. |

I agree with you Ratbuell, The Uly already has the best motor for the bike! Although I wouldn't mind seeing a XB9X being sold but wouldn't likely make great sales so I doubt if Buell will ever do that. |

I'd like to see Erik Buell and his design team offer an 18" rear/19" or 21" front wheel option for more "knobby" dual-sport tire options for those who want to take their ulys waaaaay off the beatened path. |

I rode an 1125 at Homecoming last summer, and the engine just seemed tighter than the 1203. I can't explain it, but it seemed more refined and smoother than the Uly's engine. Don't get me wrong, I love my Uly. And it is nice that I've been able to start branching out and fixing my own engine. But it just seems that the 1125 engine in the Uly frame would be even better. Not for the sake of more power, but for the aesthetics of the thing. And I don't take the Uly off-road anymore after I got the KLX, so I couldn't care less about how it handles off-road. If they came out with an XT with the Rotax, I'd trade my Uly in a heartbeat. (And then spend about $1000 re-buying all of the aftermarket stuff I've installed). |

They'd better be designing a gas/electric hybrid. |

Hooper - the XB family is a "platform" system. Powertrain is identical throughout - a 1203 is a 1203, regardless of Firebolt, Lightning, long, low, Uly, whatever. The days of "different cams for different models" went away with the death of the tuber. Short frame (52" wheelbase): 12R, 9SX, 12S, 12Scg Long frame (54" wheelbase): 12Ss, UlyX, UlyXT And anytime you want to go for a spin on the 1125 (either flavor), just come on up |

I hope Buell does not create a rotax XT. If they did I would have to find a way to have one and I don't need to spend any more money right now. |

the 1125xt sounds good to me. more power, less weight. all the basic components are there, motor, frame, wheels, suspension, etc. just put on a different seat, upright riding position, wind protection, bags. i would have to trade my '06 uly, but wait....on second thought i'd keep it too. make it!!!! |

Either those Cagiva bikes are freaking huge, or they shrunk the 1125 engine! |
