Does anyone know about the tires that come on the police version?
Are they run flats?
Are run flats available to fit an X?
I know the FLH cop bikes can have them and they are Dunlops, I think.

They are run of the mill Scorpion Syncs as far as I know.

How do you "add" that stuff? It looks like you can only buy the tires pre installed. I was planning on getting my next tires from them anyway.

Are none-LEO folks allowed to purchase new XB12X-Ps if the dealer removes the red/blue lights before delivery? It says security companies are allowed (with amber or green emergency lights in California), and the public have been buying used FLHPs at auctions with the red/blues removed. So....is it possible to buy new ones?

Purchase, yes. Order, no. First owner has to be either a demo fleet, or a municipality.

I doubt, mainly since it is sold through a separate group, that you can buy the XP.

I have, mostly just to satisfy my curiosity, ordered and received a bunch of the parts such as the switch (no kidding all that gear and there is but a single unique switch) and the bracket.

NOTE: The stuff ain't cheap.

That's accurate : )

The response kit is right around $2400. Lights, siren, controls, handguards (because they have lights in 'em), top box (because it has the controllers attached to it, and more lights)...

As an example the little space that looks like a 1" long piece of soda straw fabricated from metal is $8.30.

The switch for the lights and siren was $50.95.

Nice, overcharge 'cause it's taxpayer money.

They are just LEDs and boxes, geesh.

I wish Buell would sell the front lights as a driving light kit. You could use an Autoswitch with them and it would look nice.

Unlikely.

There exists intense competition in this market segment with no capacity to accept a more expensive product because it's better. It's a pure low bid market.

I'd more likely ascribe the price to the fact that a part has to be engineered, fabricated and sold in quantity that;s likely less than the number of Ferrari California's being imported.

We just did a dozen FLHTP's with sidecars for the Inauguration. It is, truly, a "bid low or die" system.

Fact is, the LEDs that are used for LEO markings are brightbrightBRIGHT, have built in flash engines, are weathertight, are small for mount-anywhere use, and are durability tested within inches of life...over and over again. The guy who bought my old (personal) FLHP wants me to come over and put in an override switch...for the highmount *BRAKE*light. Guys riding behind him are complaining.

Oh, and Court? Those pieces of straw are the same pieces that are used to mount the Quest GPS kit to a Uly. Looking back, I'd have ordered them - much easier than baloney-slicing a piece of tubing to "make" my own, since nobody else makes anything the right size...

Joe, next time you are at work can you check the price of part number L2246.1AU. It is the mount for the siren.

I have an idea.

$41, but the bike frame strut on the R side is different, it has the bosses to mount this piece. The frame piece is called a W bracket. The XP part doesn't come up anywhere other than in lookup, but the stock X/XT piece is $220.

Nice, overcharge 'cause it's taxpayer money.

I would have to say, that if it is anything like it is in the bicycle industry, the manufacturer and dealer are actually losing money on the sale. I know every police bicycle we sold, we lost money on, but there was some reasoning behind it. You get the name out there and you get to associate it with a product that will be severely abused and will be seen on a far more regular basis. This helps to set it in the minds of civilians when it comes time to buy, and what they will associate it with. For every unit moved, think about how many thousands will see that unit over it's life span, that makes it much more effective per dollar spent than most advertising campaigns.

Shhhhhh. . . .

I'll tell you the trick.

The dealer BUYS the bike, puts "donated by XXX" on the side bags. . . leases it to the city for a 12 month period, gets it back, strips it and turns it into a Fat Boy which sells for several grand more and has a crowd clamoring for a good used 1 year old bike.

Works nicely

Yep, a couple of times.
They were testing it in some loose dirt.

It was actually fire dept. evaluating it for rescue use after hurricanes.

That was a pre-production model in july of 07.

I was going to the same place to give the then week old uly a try off road and they happened to be there doing the same.

Worked out nicely because there were no trespassing signs all over and they unofficially allowed me to follow.

Don't think I have ever posted this shot before, the others have been around.

If ours is still not sold after 6 months it can go to general public as we bought it as a demo unit. Of course all the emergency agency specific equipment must come off, so really what ends up being the point?

Hopefully Buell will correct that problem next year! I was in total shock when they didn't offer either Ulysses models in the black color.

Froggy,

Apparently you haven't checked out the offerings in other countries for '09...

Deutschland:
http://www.buell.com/de_de/bikes/adventure/XB12X/c olors.asp#
Mexico:
http://www.buell.com/es_mx/bikes/adventure/XB12X/c olors.asp#
Even Italy:
http://www.buell.com/it_it/bikes/adventure/XB12X/c olors.asp#
All show Black as a color choice for the XB12X.

I researched this a few months ago on the XB12XT and found that only the US and Canada (obviously I couldn't check on the countries that don't have the full website) did not have the option of Black.

that's great that they offer the black colors there but I prefer to shop locally! It's about 15 miles to my local dealer.

Buell has the capabilities to offer their motorcycles in a wide varity of colors since it's just the plastic air box cover and flyscreen that needs to be changed to change colors.

Harley Davidson offers a much better selection of motorcycle colors and they are a painted product which is far more expensive as to what it would cost Buell to expand their colors offered.

When only one or two colors are offered, your not giving the consumer much of a selection!

By the way, the scorpion synch did a pretty good imitation of a run flat tire when my rear went flat and I was about 40 miles or more from home.

Tire got pretty hot, and the ride was pretty straight, but I was at highway speed.

It's flat in the picture.

It's cool that they leave the beaver tail up. When they arrest someone, they can cuff 'em to the grab handles.

What type of mounting system is there to hold those big flashers in the front?
Is it like a GME bar?

Totally different. C-channel, opening forward, bolt is vertical through both ends of the C, the light tab fits in between. Hard to describe, but I can't upload the pic individually from H-Dnet.

Think about the handguards. Inboard, the handguard is shaped like a C, with the bolt for the lever pivot going through it. Imagine the handguard is the mount, the bolt is the bolt, and the light would fill the handguard and surround the bolt.

The switch for the lights and siren was $50.95.

HOLY SCHNIKIES!

I guess it's plan C for a slick switch for my auxiliary lighting...
