And welcome to the Biggest, Baddest and soon to be Dirtiest Buell you've owned.

you know who you are

Thanks to the wonderful folks here at BWB, Frank rode 100 miles north today to trade his Firebolt in on a cool new Thrust Blue Ulysses telling me, among several reasons, "because I won't buy except at BadWEB sponsors."

It was a virtual Buell bragging party in the parking lot for a couple hours. WE had braggin' and lying, and there was plenty of lyin' and bragging too. 1125R's were following demo rides on 1125CRTTs, Ulysses were being sold, other Ulysses owners were exchanging tips & tricks. In the feast or famine motorcycle business, we had a feast kinda CBR day in January!!

Yup, things are lookin' fine for 2009.

I know my dealer in MD will set up a test ride of a CR for me, and I definitely did a test-ride of my current Harley in 33-degree weather, but I'm really impressed that you had lots of riders out!

I'm looking forward to taking part in a Patriot Guard ride this weekend and next week, even though it will be cold. I know there won't be m/any Buells, but I want to represent the honor of the soldier, and the honor of the unique American bike.

I also know that I'm not afraid to ride in bad weather.

Yep it was a "Jammin" day at HC-HD today. I'm glad I decided to head out there. To all of you CO Badwebbers who were also there, it was great meeting you all and I look forward to the next time we have a chance to cross paths.
And to you Dave, keep up the good work. It's rare to see a M/C dealer that does so well at building such relationships among it's customers. I look forward to my next visit.
Cheers.

Alex, I wish I had more time to chat with you but Dave had me doing all kinds of paperwork to get on the road. It has been a while since I bought a bike and I forgot all the paperwork that was involved but the guys at HCHD did a great job.

I should clarify why I bought a bike at HCHD, 110 miles North of me, and I went past several other dealersl, yes, I like the fact that HCHD is a BadWeb sponsor because it shows a certain level of dedication to not only Buells to also to Buell owners. The grassroots approach to sales will HCHD in business while other dealerships will fail.

Now if everything was the same and HCHD was not a BadWeb sponsor they will still score very high with me because you have several people at the dealership that ride Buells and are active on several Uly and Buell web sites. That is a small thing but a very critical one. You have no idea how nice it is to talk to someone about Buells that actually knows Buells and rides them.

Being a BadWeb sponsor was just icing on the the cake. There are two dealerships I like with 500 miles of me and only one in Colorado. When the market falls and people don't want to be treated like crap with used car salesman tactics they will take there business to High Country.

I see great things between HCHD/Buell and the people that ride Buells in Colorado.

I took Lynn out for a ride on the Uly and wanted to get some miles before the cold front moved in. We made it about half way then froze the rest of the way home. We were dressed for 40 degree weather and ended up in 20 degree weather. Still a lot of fun. Lynn says the Uly is not as comfortable as the Electraglide but not bad at all. She does not ride with me that much since she rides her own.

On our little ride I notice it is the tumbleweed migration season. I picked up a few of these guys.

I really liked the name of this road. Of course it was a dirt road.

I did notice something strange. I had problems getting her started this morning. It was almost like she was starved for gas. Start up and die within a second. On the third startup she idled but was varying the idle between 1000 and 1700 rpm and then settled in to a normal idle. She runs great once warmed up so I am not worried about it but was wondering if anyone else experienced that.

Frank

They sometimes do the start and die, it went away on mine after about a 1k miles and no longer dies after starting. Just be sure to not touch the throttle during or right after starting.

Rwcfrank, thanks for the info. I learned to never touch the throttle on my XB12R the hard way.

Hey Frank,
First, a hearty congratulations on your new acquisition! Being the recent purchaser of a brand new 09 myself, I can relate to your euphoria. You are absolutely going to love the thing.

I too wish I had the opportunity to chat more extensively, but you did have slightly more important business to attend to and the experience of buying a bike there at HC/GH should be enjoyed. They do know how to take care of a customer there, don't they? What I've noticed there, unlike many and possibly most Bike (and car) dealers it the sales team at HC all seem to have a background and level of professionalism that could easily be marketed in another industry and probably for a bigger paycheck. They all seem to have a genuine passion for motorcycles and when they sell you one, they seem to be more focused on helping you enhance your life with something cool than simply earning their next commission. And I'm sure that's the key to their success.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll cross paths again. Enjoy your new toy!

Oh, and on the starting issue, mine does that on occasion as well, especially on a very cold day. It's nothing to worry about and as Rwcfrank pointed out, it more or less goes away after a thousand miles of so. The ECM has a learning mode and on a brand new bike, it may need some time to dial itself in. Mine went through the same process. The interesting thing was, after I went to a K&N filter, the thing ran like crap for about a day, but it slowly readjusted to the new airflow and smoothed itself out. Now it runs like a dream.

Cheers.

So Frank, you did get out today. Say Hi to Lynn for us. When Dan demo'd the Uly a couple of years ago I went 2up with him and loved it. Of course, the main problem is that if I could touch the ground, I'd love to have my own. Oh well, just toooooo short.

It was nice meeting you Alex. Didn't get to talk a lot but maybe next time.

We'll be back up to HCHD hopefully in the near future to pick up Dan's fixed bike.

HCHD has been a great place to go. This is Dan's second Buell he's bought from them. Lets just see how the service dept can diagnose the problem with Dan's bike.

Julie,
I would have hung out a bit longer but I had a buttload of errands to do. I actually only stopped my HC to buy some oil. Had I known it there was going to be an impromptu Bad Web convention, I would have scheduled more time. I'm sure there'll be more occasions to meet up in the near future. Let me know the next time you head up to HC, or better yet, getting together on the next warm Sunday for a ride would be nice as well. I think my copilot(wife)would enjoy meeting other Buellers as well.
