Hello guys and gals, I hoper every one is having a Buellistic Xmas, I have a couple of questions, any one know where I can get hold of a 27 toot aluminium front pulley? Any one has used the free spirits belt tensioner, and if you see a real advantage in using it? Thank you, Miguel

Hola Miguel! Check these out on the tensioner - I have one, like it, but cannot tell if it is more performance or bling oriented http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/412207.html http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/359557.html |

Ok, I guess I should respond on this as I was the guy complaining about the way my Free spirits tensioners were working on one of the links supplied. Matt got in touch with me regarding a manufacturing problem they had with a batch of the tensioners (of which I received 2). I requested the parts and wanted to do the repair myself rather than sending them back for repair. The parts were sent immediately and they function perfectly now. I would recommend them to anyone who has concerns about their belt or bearing life and wants a little peace of mind. Whether or not the spring tensioner actually eliminates failures, I don't know other than to say I've had no belt or bearing problems since I installed mine. Regarding the aluminum pulley, check E-Bay. |

Posted today on the UK Buell site...... PostPosted: Sun Dec 28, 2008 3:08 pm Post subject: Free spirit tensioner, issues or not! Just fitted a free spirit tensioner to my XB9SX and I would like to make the following observations: - Needed to use the 2 washers provided in the kit to space the unit off the exhaust (Standard) mounts. - Due to above I had to fit the tensioner wheel shims on one side of the wheel to try and bring it back into line with the belt. - The pulley now sit close to one side of the tensioner (only an issue if the bearings start to fail). - The belt edge is still on the very edge of the pulley not central to the pulley - had to trim cover (not an issue as not obvious from normal viewing angles) - Bike has far less rolling resistance now when manoeuvring at slow speed. - The standard pulley centre bolt is not long enough to allow the nyloc part of the nut to grip the bolt - this to me is a problem which I will have to try and get round, any ideas? Given there is pages and pages on this site about all of the above issues I think If I was the manufacturer of this component I would modify my design slightly to take into account these issues. But what do I know. Otherwise a good piece of kit. |
