Joe, I got my quest in the mail yesterday. They did not include the 25 digit product code but I do not know if I need it. I have not read the instructions yet. I turned it on and watched it find my location but that is all I did with it since I did not have it hooked up to a power source.
I will be taking your list of parts to the dealership to order them. Thanks |

ok, so is the motorcycle kit from garmin , on amazon for $45? the same as the buell one? |

The Garmin mount is nearly identical from the photo. It's not exactly the same, but when you figure I paid nearly $550 for the Buell Quest unit in the spring (long story, but I needed one ASAP), it's close enough that I wouldn't think twice about ordering it.

It's very close. I have pics of the parts I got from Buell. The cradle looks to be the same as pictured on Amazon. The bracket the cradle bolts to is designed specifically for a Buell, in the Buell kit. It is a heavy piece of metal that has holes to attach directly to the two bolts that hold the front brake perch to the handlebar, putting the Quest between the rider and the front master cylinder. The power harness also has a male and female connector that matches the Uly's accessory plug inside the fairing - unplug the harness on the bike, plug the GPS male to the bike's female, GPS female to bike male, and done. The Buell bracket also has a threaded hole for the (also threaded) headphone jack that's part of the harness.
The only thing I need to source myself is a set of 6-32 screws (1 at 1", 2 at 1.25") to attach the cradle to the bracket, and I'll start my install. Got a list to do when I'm in the fairing - GPS power, 2-beam highbeam mod, and relocate the rattlerattle horn so it stops hitting the inside of the flyscreen. |

Frank - I looked harder in mine, and they type the 25 digit code at the bottom of the yellow page. I think. It's *really* small, and it's at the bottom of one of the pages. |

Rat Are you going to mount the Quest on your S2? If so what are you using to mount it. Looks as if the Quest 2 will meet my needs best also for the price anyway. |

I bought the Buell mount for my Uly. I may get one of the Amazon mounts for the S2, I haven't decided yet. Either that, or I'll get the HD mount kit for a Quest, since the S2 uses HD controls...wow, that little light bulb *just* came on as I was typing. Gonna have to research that one! |

Alright. Got it installed. No pics, sorry - it's *4* degrees, and even from 10 feet away my 50k BTU bullet heater wasn't heating very well.
Lessons learned:
1. It's EASY to change the pins in the lighting harness so you have 2 light high beams
2. A drill and a pop rivet at the bottom of the horn bracket, to attach the lower end of it to the fairing framework, keeps the horn from rattling against the flyscreen
3. As ridiculous as they are, buy the $14 worth of spacers to attach the GPS mount to the brake perch. NOBODY makes anything that will work. I cut down a 1" spacer like pepperoni, with a dremel, to get something to make it work.
All in all, it's sweet. Plug and play, but threading the 2 heavy gauge wires at the bracket end around/through the handlebars, wiring, and throttle cables took some trial and error (4 degrees didn't help cable flexibility either). My only concern is the power wire to the gps itself - it doesn't have a very positive latching mechanism, but we'll see. All in all, it's very visible, very low profile (not much higher than the brake m/c - maybe 1/4"). I'll get pics as soon as I can, without fear of sticking to my camera because of cold.
While I was out there, I also replaced my tag light with LED <shrug> I had half a beer left, might as well keep busy  |

Joe, yes it is. Thanks. I am unsure why I need to load the disk provided since there are already maps on the unit. Maybe they are updated maps or something else.

If I understood mine properly, the disk is the drivers for the PC, so it knows what just got plugged into it. If you register at garmin.com, there's some cool stuff there too. I got the translator that allows you to send stuff right from Mapquest or Google Earth, to the GPS. Just be sure to send as waypoints, not 'route' - 'route' gives you a crow-flies direction between the two endpoints. Waypoints allow them to go to the GPS as two seperate locations, and it routes directions internally. |
