that must be regional...two of the biggest dealers in florida, have inventory up the yang.. yesterday, a lead salesman told me that last month was the smallest paycheck he has had in twenty years of sales.. another sales woman at the daytona harley just got laid off due to a soft market.. then again, it might be harley propaganda, to keep people buying... |

Its all how you play the statistics. Like say the nightster, it is the number one selling sportster, and this year we have surpassed last years numbers year to date; but that doesnt tell the whole story about the rest of the line up. I do wish that who ever came up with that copper color for 08 and the 105th anniversary realizes what an abyssmal failure that was. As far as our shop goes... I am glad I am on vacation until February 09. |

The story says 'record sales for Australia.' Every HD article I have read states that US sales are down, but overseas are up, way up. A weaker US dollar will only help export sales. Tom B |

my HD stock is/was 70% down the last few months. It's gonna be a slow recovery. |

harleys new strategy is to make less bikes, to keep the price up... but with fewer buyers, there goes that idea... |

you figure genX starts right about the time baby boomers start to have kids... Your typical stat for average Harley Davidson is about 42... Guess who is turning 42? Guess who has angst and cash to burn it on, and maybe a new divorce too. 42 has always been the magical number. As my first sales manager said, theres a new batch of 42 year olds every year, and every spring a new host of divorces... |

I have a friend in Michigan who owned other Harley's and dirt bikes when he was younger but who progressed most recently through the following series of bikes, (all of which he still owns) 1965 panhead a 1200 Sportster a Dyna Low Rider a Buell Lightning He will turn 60 in 2010 and went from 50 hp to 103hp. Old guys were going fast before young whipper snappers found out it was cool. |

"He will turn 60 in 2010 and went from 50 hp to 103hp. Old guys were going fast before young whipper snappers found out it was cool." I know a guy here who rides like a complete maniac. No one can catch on his R1100RT, not even the younger guys on crotch rockets. Guys have been hurt bad trying to keep up with him. He's 72 and still rides all over the country side like a loonatic. |

Yep, I got a friend like that too. He's 76 and rides a 97 Ultra. He wears the sides of his tires out before the middle!! He's fun to follow and a work out to stay ahead of!! I read in this months MCN that Buell was doing much better in sales than Harley. Not in total numbers but percentage wise. (Message edited by tootal on December 27, 2008) |
