I just got back from a little ride down the coast and the weather
today was spot on for a good head clearing.
I stopped in Green Valley by the old small dealership there to get a
tank of gas then proceeded south on Hwy 1.

With my head all cloudy from recent loss of job activity I re-entered the
highway with gusto as there wasn't a car in sight and then settled in at about 80 just looking off
in the distance and enjoying the wind and weather when all of a
sudden out of the corner of my eye I see a pretty white motorcycle
with shiny red and blue markers pull up next to me and the uniformed
rider pointing to the side of the road.......OH crap….. I'm in trouble
again......

Well as luck would have my license expired last Saturday on my
birthday, and I can't find my insurance card. O-Shit.....

So I apologize to the officer explaining that I just lost my job and
was not paying attention to my speed just trying to clear my head. I
then explained that I had sent in my license renewal but the new one
has not arrived yet. Then I tell him I can't find my insurance card
but I know it's current and tell him it's Geico.

Off he goes with ticket book in hand and my expired license.....
I'm thinking well no tickets on my record and I can clear it with
defensive driving course but it's still gonna cost me bad.....

Well to my surprise he gave me a no insurance ticket and told me that
all I had to do is show up in court with proof of insurance and it
will only cost me ten bucks.

Then he gives me a verbal on the speed, telling me he clocked me at
over 90 coming onto the highway but I backed it down to 80 while he
followed me for two miles trying to get my attention.

He let me off!!! Woo hoo!
Never had that happen by a motor cop before. Nice guy!

Well as luck would have it again, I ended up giving my son Westley a good ribbing.

He was attending a CHP Explorer meeting/class (wants to be a motorcycle cop) when the motor officer
that pulled me over walks into the meeting and says OK who's McAlister?
When Westley says me the guy laughs and proceeded to tell the whole
group about the hot-rod dad he just ticketed! ME!

When the motor officer said he had given me a
ticket, Westley replied: "What did he do now. Was he pulling a
wheelie?" The whole class promptly erupted in laughter.......

OUCH! ...Now I'm really gonna have to take my fun elsewhere.....!

Thought that might give yall a good laugh too!

He had the stones to give you a ticket after knowing you were without a source of income ! That's weak. Maybe if all the fuzz stopped giving tickets the economy might not be so bad off. Being fleeced by the people we vote into office and their hired hands. FTW

Nah Skinstains, only ten bucks to show I actually do have insurance. Could have been WAY worse since he clocked me over 90 MPH coming onto the highway posted 65....

A real break!

You want fleecing?? How about EVERYBODY gets a ticket no matter what!! It's the fairest way... Good thing it isn't this way though...

I'm thinking maybe if the law breakers stopped breaking the law, the fuzz would stop giving out tickets!

The fuzz are the real law breakers. Pull a DMV abstract of any cops driving record and see how many points they have. Do as I say not as I do. Yeah right. An oath is an oath, not just a stupid ceramony. It's supposed to mean something. Selective enforcement is bull$hit. One stinking ticket for breaking a law that the cop giving you the ticket breaks all day long can end up costing you thousands of dollars. The system sucks. Everyone in the country except those in a few metropolitan areas need to drive and the government certainly knows that. Motor vehicle fines and tickets are an inexhaustable sorce of revenue constantly being tapped. The scumbag effed up cities and towns around here actually let you BUY a downgrade on your ticket so the state doesn't get your money and they do. Well sir/madam you could take an upgraded fine of $400.00 here for a lesser charge on your ticket so you wont have to pay the state $600.00. WTF ! Anarchy is inevitable and I hope I'm here to enjoy it.

I had a similar experience with the Texas HWY Patrol (our DPS). My daughter was going to spend the week at my parents house, and one day into the week I get a call that I needed to pick her up because they had to put my dad into the hospital. My wife and I make it to Kerrville without any problems, and we get a late start back to Austin. (oh, I guess I should mention this is in a car, not on our bikes). I'm watching for bambi, which are all over the place, as the sun sets. The speed limit goes from 70 to 65 at night here, and I'm not paying attention to my speed, I'm scanning the horizon for deer and talking with my wife while my daughter is crashed out in the back seat. Next thing I know I see Johnny Law behind me and look down at my speedometer... crap 85. I wasn't even trying to speed.

Officer comes over, I give him all my paperwork. He asks where we were coming from and I tell him. He asks if I know the speed limit is reduced to 65 at night, I say "yes". He flashes his light in the back seat where my daughter is off in la-la land, and tells me he'll be back. He runs my license, comes back with his warning book and writes me a warning. I couldn't believe it. A warning for 20 MPH over the speed limit. To this day, I have no idea why he decided to cut me some slack, but I'm sure happy he did, that would have been one expensive ticket.

BTW, a DPS officer who goes to my church told me that the verbal warning system is just about dead here in Texas thanks to the dash cameras. When they flip on their lights, the camera rolls. If they pull you over for a violation, they have to issue you some sort of ticket, either a warning or citation.

Last time I got stopped, I got popped for 70 in a 45. $166 fine.

I just paid it.

Figured that was nothing compared to the 90 in a 40 I got popped for back last winter and the officer let me go. Oh yeah...my tags were expired and my insurance card was out of date (new one was at home).

The officer told me if he wrote me up, he'd have to impound my bike and do a bunch of paperwork and he was on his way home and didn't want to fool with it and would let me off provided I promised to slow down.

Figured my luck had run out with the last one. : )

A friend of mine is an LEO here in a small village in NE Ohio where I live. He told me just tonight that he picked up a guy that ran a red light. The guy was Mexican, no ID, no drivers license, nothing - he couldn't even speak english. He decided to let him go with a warning, because he didn't want to deal with immigration.

True story - and I wondered (to myself) had he been a local, he probably would have received a ticket.

OK I don't want to chime in on the Illegal Immigrant posts since my passions on the subject release any of my self control.

But back to BC Steve's original. I'd be willing to bet a minute number of us have ever been ticketed for something we ACTUALLY DIDN'T DESERVE. I would also bet most of us have gotten away with far more close calls, and that doesn't include the even more time we spend "breaking the rules" that summon the LEO's from nowhere.

I've been let off before when I shouldn't have, many times. It's all about the attitude at the moment. If the cop's a d..khead (or you) you're gonna get a ticket. Work it out with the judge. Or suck it up.

I like cops, related to and have ridden with them. Most of the people in their profession dedicate themselves to helping the rest of us, and must perform by standards which leave no gray area.

Sure there are bad cops, but I'll bet there are more of them in localities or states where the bureaucracies are at best, worse. Don't like the uneven levels of fairness in your government? Vote the crooks out!

I also know that motor cops are like us. They ride daily on the job in dangerous and unpredictable conditions for many more miles per year than some riders do in ten. They ride better than most civvy riders. They like bikes. They respect riders who show some discipline and ability. They have more serious things to worry about when pulling over a decrepit '70's sedan in San Diego with no plates...

I give motor cops a wave always, give it a shot, they usually wave back. Sometimes first.

in reality, there are a lot of people out there, that hate everything to do with motorcycles and the people that ride them...
if it wasnt for the cops, you couldnt even ride down the street, because someone would take your ass out...

if you thought the cop that stopped you was an ass, chances are that the cops he works with think he is too...
im not going to get sucked up in the cop bashing crap...

Here's the question: does having the F.O.P. donation sticker on your window help at all?

I get to watch the Washington, DC Harley cops do their thing around the capital...sometimes envious of them, but they ride year 'round in all weather, and they don't wear full-face helmets. No heated handgrips...just a blanket over their legs. They use sidecars when the weather is really bad. Still envious...

Saw a bunch of them this morning on the GW Parkway, escorting the CIA Director to the White House for the AM briefing. Shoe threats and the like.

Insurance ticket here in Saskatchewan would have cost a cool $570.00 CDN.

How much are they in your area?
