On the left side that bike looks sweet, truly XRish. But the right side is downright fugly. Those pipes have got to go. Storz has the right look in that category. A frame worthy of a street tracker would be nice too. But otherwise, yes, this thing does have potential. But to answer your question; I'd say, go for the XR. Not because it's the better bike than an XB, but because Harley needs to be shown that America DOES want bikes like this. The more they sell, the more they may move in this direction. The XRs future is in your hands! |

XB... or XR? I like the styling of the XR; but that aside, it's inferior to the XB in every other respect. I predict it will be another bike everyone likes (to look at), but few will buy. |

I don't really care for the new XR but if you could change the new V-rod Muscle to have mid controls, that would sure make a nice motorcycle! Lot more power than the XR. |

Ride them both, then buy the one that you like better. |

Remember the v-rod streetrod? It had the foot pegs and controls in the right place and no one would buy it. Discontinued after two years. Go figure?! |

"Remember the v-rod streetrod? It had the foot pegs and controls in the right place and no one would buy it. Discontinued after two years. Go figure?!" YES! that was a nice motorcycle. I test rode one and the only reason I didn't buy it was because the dealer wouldn't give me anything for my Buell M2 Cyclone on a trade-in. The street rod was a little heavy but it had the motor to pull it. When I test rode it, I was doing about 80 and I couldn't hear the motor running. It was very powerful and quiet. But I lucked-out in the end, I bought a 2006 XB12X Ulysses and it has been by far the best motorcycle I've ever ridden or owned in my 43 years of motorcycling! |

Buy them both and do a long term ownership study, chronicling the ying & yang of each. I can put you in touch with a salesman who can offer such services. ~jammer |

Hey you guys, quiet! I want to see that bike succeed. It's what I would have bought myself..., if Buell wasn't around.

Give me a call with the deposit now, your commute to us will be worth the last long legged adventure on the ULY. bonus if you get dirt in each state between Washington and Florida. Our XR1200 is still available as of today.... payday is friday, you have to beat my deposit on it. |

I agree! If you're not going to be touring or riding on crap dirt roads, the XR provides a base that something pretty unique and awesome can be built from. I like the thing. Unfortunately, touring and riding unpaved forest service roads it a priority of mine, so it was the Uly for me. |

Storz created this look......wonder how much he got paid to sell the XR1200 name to HD?? HD evidently needed to buy it in order to finally be able to sell the new model in the states. Looks like Steve is all smiles.....Still like the Storz XR1200 much more than the HD version , but then again the full Storz conversion kit is pricey in comparison

Can't take that kind of time off work. One of the drawbacks of being self employed. No one to cover for me. Infrequent long week ends are the best I can do. |

I won't have room for another bike for a year or two. And I certainly would not give up my Uly to make room for an XR. But I do plan on getting another moto at some point in the next few years. The XR is on the short list along with... well, ok - it is not a very short list after all actually and I have to go offline. |

Our XR just got gone. Sight unseen, unridden, with an extra 1800 in P&A . Gone before you saw it coming. |

I'm guessing there will be tons of that buying XRs sight unseen. At least the first 750 of them. I'd hate to hazard a guess, but I bet a LOT of those will be on the market in a year or two with hardly any miles on them. There! I have a plan for getting one and the timing may be just right. |

We've taken pre-order deposits for four already. I expect a pair of brothers tomorrow who want two as well. I believe them to be solid buyers, one owns an XR750 and an XR1000, he wants to round out the set. ~jammer |

So I'm looking at the XR and wondering why I would want that when my XB is a better machine in just about every aspect that is important to me: handling, torque, touring capability, two up touring capability, fire road/gravelability etc... The thing is the XR looks like a motorcycle while my Uly looks like some kind of alien insect. Now I've come to be quite fond of the alien insect look. I still go out to the garage just to stare at the dang thing. But I would really love is something that is as great as the Uly is at all that it is great at and yet still somehow could look like a motorcycle. I was looking at the gallery at the Harley site (URL at the top of this thread) and got to the shot of the engine. You can actually SEE the whole engine! It is simple and beautiful. There has to be some way to get the mass centralization of Fuel in Frame and still let us see the central glory of the bike! or mebbe not? |

There is an interesting review of a demo ride from a guy who sounds like he has no particular ax to grind. Cornering was pretty good on smooth roads. It will eat any Roadster in the corners. I did not try to push the bike to it's limits, this was a demo ride. I would put it halfway between my Roadster with its highly modified suspension, and a Buell. On smooth roads, it was much more stable than then my Roadster. Yea, I hit 100 mph, no problem. But cornering confidence is not very close to the Buells, or my Ducati Multistrada with Ohlins, primarily due to the stiff shocks. The whole thing is at: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php? t=377411 This suggests to me that I'm probably too spoiled by my Uly to be able to enjoy the XR for very long. |

If I were looking for an XR replica, I'd buy an older (and much lighter) pre-2004 solid mount Sporty for a couple grand then modify it to be similar to the Storz version. I sat on one of the new XR's and it's a huge heavy motorcycle compared to my home built (1997 XL883/1200 upgrade) XR 1200 replica (which I sold to buy a Uly). |
