Here is a long term ride report that I just read today. The owner is very enthusiastic about his Uly and is not a newbie to motorcycles but it is his first Buell. Enjoy, I did.

Ulykon,

Can you post the full URL to this review? My firewall filters out "tinyurl.com", because, well, because its full of spyware. I would like to read this review though. so if you could post the full URL, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Hey Froggy, I like tinyurl 'cuz I can right click anywhere in the page and create a link instead of going to the address bar and double clicking and copying the url. One can get lazy I suppose. Anyway you've already done that so I won't duplicate your effort. Flog me with a wet noodle if you wish and I'll fade back into lurk mode.

Agreed! He needs to ride more than that. I invited him to visit us here so if he does we can encourage him to do that.

I just appreciate his effort in writing the piece. I hope he can get more riding in but I think riding is a quality thing not a quantity issue.

I confess I'm not a very high mileage rider! I average about 3K per summer, as my job keeps me away from home about half the time. I always have plans for some bigger trips, but stuff gets in the way.

And true, my muffler is yet pristine! ; )

Still, this has been my riding habit through my last six or seven bikes, and the Uly rocks! I'm interested (as my review states) to see what the Rotax-powered Uly will look like, and indeed when it's coming. (I assume that the development costs of that motor are such that other models are needed to recoup; surely their biggest seller will be enlisted in that effort.)

Anyway, thanks all for visiting!

Wow, I was going to attack Wunelle for hating on the H-Ds so much and making it sound like so many of the Uly parts came from Harley, but I luckily noticed he was on here (as Stacky). Ha ha...

Great writeup...you successfully distracted me from work for a bit! welcome aboard!

Thunderbox, More you ride, the more quality riding you get. It's all good.

I fully expect that not everyone will share my reservations about H-D (and I dedicated a different post, linked in my Uly review, to my conflicted thoughts about H-D).

But I feel pretty firm that Buell riders are getting the best out of the parent company.

Yep, I agree with you in that H-D has basically found its niche and is working the heck out of it (though the V-Rod was a step outside the box), and I think that's just fine. I never thought I'd own a Harley-Davidson (I'd rent them, though), but I finally saw one that I liked. It's been damn fun and a more consistent bike than my beloved Uly (though guess which one would get sold first), but here's the most telling fact: I'm gradually "anonymizing" my Hog...turning it into just a mean-looking black bike, with no logos on it. Coincidence. Not at all.

black bikes

Next to go? The tank badge, then the air cleaner cover. Just a black bike with one seat and a big engine. Not a Harley guy. Definitely a Buell guy.

Why don't you put the Buell tank badges on the H-D ? I'm sure you would get more than your fair share of questions from other "bikers" ha.

That would be hilarious. When I was in high school I had an '82 Toyota Corolla with a "Maserati" nameplate on the back and a trident on the grill - people really believed it.

Give Stacky a break on the mileage....I only put 2,600 miles on my Uly since I bought it in 4/08.

'course, it's bike #3 in my garage.

And I spent six weeks in a hospital and three months in physical rehab this summer....

OK, nevermind. Rib the guy : )

Welcome to badweb, Stacky. Great writeup, very well composed. Nice to see someone with an actual understanding of the English language these days, lol.

Thanks. I needed to look around this place much sooner; all sorts of Buell fanatics around here (and I thought the thing had gotten under MY skin...)

I guess I just passed the two year mark (embarking on year three), so this is actually a good deal more riding than I typically do. But the Buell guy at the H-D dealership who sold it to me has the same vintage Uly, and his bike has 20K on it and a loving collection of grime and dings. So I always knew I was an amateur! ; )

So I always knew I was an amateur!

Webster's Concise Electronic Dictionary

1. am·a·teur
(noun) [am·a·teurs]
- person who does something for pleasure rather than for pay

Seems like amateur is the right word, and one we all should be proud of!
