I bought a stock 12 muffler on ebay and had it sent to Kevin for the works. I got it and put it on my 2008 Uly, giggling the whole time. Well I got it mounted and the large mounting bracket on the right side is hitting the oil lines. I compared the two mufflers and found that the 2008 from my bike is about an inch farther out than the other. Does the 2008 have a different part number than the others?

This sucks. I couldn't wait to ride tomorrow with my new muffler.

Anyone want to buy a brand new Drummer?

Can you get the bracket re-fabricated
and welded at your local bike shop? There is a small bike shop near me that does that sort of thing. Could ask Kevin if he would do it.

Yes the Uly has a different muffler. Partly to clear the taller kick stand.

I have never heard of the right side bracket being any different. I know that I have experienced both my Drummer and my Race Pipe not fitting right if the muffler was rotated too much in one direction of the other. Loosen up all the clamps and see if you can rotate the muffler a little and find a sweet spot.

Could the oil lines be the difference on an 08?

I thought the only difference for a Uly/TT muffler was the outlet, and that's moot on a Drummer anyway.

I have no idea what my Drummer was on to begin with. I bought it off ebay on a lark, and put it on my 06 Uly with no problems. I'm guessing it was a 12-something because there's evidence of a valve mount on top.

+1 what Maximun said. Keep everything loosey goosey and wiggle it around 'till everything fits.

Are you sure it is a Drummer and not some mess someone passed off as a drummer ?

Its a Brand new Drummer right from KD FAB. I know that they changed some things on the '08. The problem is with the lines below the timing cover.
The '07 timing cover is round.

'08 XB

If you lift the muffler in place straight up, the right side lower fairing mount will hit those oil lines on all year XB's. You need to rotate the muffler slightly to the right (mounting flange away from the bike) and then lift the muffler into place, in order to clear the oil lines, then rotate back to the left to center prior to tightening the straps. I am almost totally positive that the lower fairing mounting brackets have not changed with the '08. Take the muffler off and try again with the technique I described above.

I got it to work with a little heat and encouragement. I only had to bend the large bracket about 1/2-3/4 inch but still a pain and still not perfect. (only I know, shhhhh) None of the mounting holes lined up perfectly, but I was able to drill out some plastic to adjust.

The bracket on my '08 is totally different than the muffler that I bought. Don't know what it came off of except that it was a XB12. It does appear that you should get an '08 muffler to mod or send in your own as the install would be much easier.

Perhaps the muffler you bought on ebay had been damaged prior to sending it to Kevin.

The stock mufflers (XB12's) should all be the same, except for the outlets.

I thought so too, but the actual factory bends are different. I measured them. I wish that I had takes pics before I installed the Drummer. Its very obvious when you compare side by side.

Are the 2008 headers different due to the timing cover being different?
I will have to visit my friend with his 2004 so we can compare them I guess.

I put a Drummer on my 2008 Uly X last spring. Did the same as you Chrisgrant. Bought a cheap core on ebay to send. There is no difference in brackets on mine. Slipped right on.

I have a chance to pick up a "stock" muffler for $50. The Buell shop doesn't know exactly what it came off of. Two questions please:

1) What do I look for as far as a stock Uly muffler? (My '08 XT has a Jardine so I have no idea what the stock looked like) My search didn't pull up any pics of the differences between Uly's and other XB's.

2) If it didn't come off a Uly, any problems sending it to Drummer or Odie? (I've searched and that looks like I shouldn't have a problem even though mine is an '08)

Thanks in advance.

If the stock pipe is being sent to Drummer or Special ops, you will be fine as long as it came off any XB12 model. You can tell if it was off a XB12 because it will have the valve visible from the top side of the can.
