Does the '08 kickstand retrofit to and '06 for the Uly? Not a real fan of the original kickstand and it appears the '08 is improved function. Anyone have experience with both?

I just put an 08 XT sidestand on my 06 UlyX. So far, it's still holding it up ; ) Less lean angle, should equate to less stress on the pivot plate and its bolts...but who knows. I just like it because it's got a bigger foot on it, and shouldn't sink in the mud as quickly : )

Dooooohhh.....did not see that post already today. Is the '09 XT stand different from the '08?

Until Ratbuell proves otherwise with a part number check, there is 2 stands.

Small foot, on the 06-08 X, and big foot, on the 08-09 XT and 09 X.

little pic comparing the stock 06X with the 08XT stands

stock lean

lean with the XT stand
I think if you kept the stock bracket like Ratbuell, the change (if any) in lean would be less (and possibly preferred)

As an FYI, there is one other option for people who want a larger foot area, but don't want the 'putter' look of the new kickstand. Touratech makes a support that gives you a larger footprint. I like it on mine but YMMV.

http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/show.lasso?sku=3 80-0030&-session=touratech:9391282C1d6580F2C6NrYu6 56145

They claim you can use the adapter on your kickstand to help you change your tire alongside the road.

"The curved sides on the extension plates
are designed to match the tire and wheel
radius. Side stand can be then used to
break the bead if tire repair is required on
the road."

Haven't had to try that yet (and hope I don't have to).

Looking at your pics, it looks like your gauge reads a steeper angle on the XT stand? Maybe my X stand was bent....but my bike is *way* more upright with the XT stand on there.

And from speaking part-number-ese...it looks like the 09 X and 08/09 XT stand are the same, just cataloged differently:

L0167.1AVB (08-09 XT)
L0167.1AK (09 X, 09 XP)

That translates into:
L0167 is the sidestand
.1AV says it belongs on an XT model
"B" at the end of that says it was revised once
.1AK says it goes on an X/XP chassis.

At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it works : )

Rat, my understanding is that the .1av means that part first came on the XT. For example say the triple tail hand rails still have the X's 1ak part designation, but then the tail itself has .1av to indicate that its fore the XT because of the decal. I noticed this a lot with stuff like the XB footpegs on my SS have the same part number as 03 lightnings.

Rat
Thanks for enlightening me! I've never quite figured out the part numbering scheme. I've only the 07 and 09 books. The 08 data came when I ordered the XT stands. Yeah, my 06 when fitted with the 08XT stand and bracket, leans a good bit more. The bracket has a little shallower angle to it. Couple that with the taller bike and there comes the extra few degrees. The foot is 'almost' parallel with the cement garage floor and sinks enough in the dirt to appear flat.

Don't forget one thing. The dipstick in the Uly's oil tank is designed to be read with the bike on it's side stand. If you do anything that changes the lean angle on a stock Uly, you could throw off the accuracy of the dipstick by quite a bit. Measuring the oil level on a 08 or later Uly is already a tedious business. Changing the lean angle while on the side stand for that bike could have a dramatic effect on the stick's accuracy.

that it does! I do the oil check by filling to spec volume and then checking when hot for reference dipstick level...in my case about 3Xss up from bottom. Was 2Xs before sidestand change.

Ok guys Here's my deal. I'm probably well into redundancy by now. I am taking delivery of my 2009 Ulysses XB12X on Friday the 12th. I have already bought the Touratech kickstand foot that makes the foot surface area larger / less prone to sinking. Apparently my 09 12X has the knock-hockey stick kickstand wich will not work with the Touratech piece. I need to know wich (old style like my Firebolt's)kickstand will work for me. I know that the non-Uly XB stands are too short but don't know wich year and model Uly stand I need.

hey there Skinstains... want to experiment with my old sidestand? It is complete (spring, pivot, bracket, etc) ..see pic above.

My guess is that just swapping your 09 sidestand with my old 06 sidestand should do the trick. All I ask is you ship back the leftover bits...I'm guessing it'd make a nice Christmas present for someone who might want the hockey stick....

Dude! Why don't you just return the Touratech piece, since the new stand will work just fine without it and use the money for something you actually need.

Ken - AH. You changed the bracket, too. I changed only the stand as my bracket has already been "upgraded" with Grade 8 bolts. That, and I was just too lazy to mess with pulling the muffler, unless I got it installed and it leaned farther.

*There's* the difference in lean angle : )

I don't want to return the Touratech piece because I think the new stand stinks. I had forgotten all about it untill Froggy reminded me that the 09 was different. I was at the Buell inside pass at NJMP and rode the Uly all day. The one thing I hated was that new stand. I couldn't deploy it because I was too short. The older type I had no problem with.

Sekalilgai, If I'm understanding you right you're saying that you want to swap stands, right ? If so, sure, my only problem is that I can't send you the one I'm using. If yours is extra send it over and I'll send you mine.

Hah skinstains, i got the opposite problem. The stand i currently have pisses me off, the position of the nub on it makes my pant legs catch the shifter when i go to kick it down. Really freaking annoying. Stupid short stand on the SS.

Buy a Uly? That would of been too easy. : D

Actually financially I couldn't do it before. After the wreck the insurance company screwed me, and the closest thing I could get was a 06 SS. I started turning it into a STT, then I missed the bags, windshield, and all the other little things, so now I am turning my Lightning Long into a Uly Low. Oh, and watch EB steal it and make Hero Blue a factory color for 2010....

Dammmmm Froggy, that sucks. Would "gap" insurance have eliminated that problem ? I will have to look into it as I don't want to get hosed in the event of a "totaling" get-off.

Yes, I thought I had gap. When I bought the bike I had every form of coverage from the insurance company, and then I even had a service contract, and extended warranty, roadside, etc. Only thing I didn't have was gap, and that was my screw-up because somewhere along the line in the paperwork I signed the thing saying no gap instead of yes gap. You just bought a new bike, you know that your hand will hurt by time you finish signing everything.

So I had $12k remaining to pay on a 6 month old bike, insurance gave me $7k for the bike, and $1k for gear and accessories (which is also BS, my bike left the dealer with $1500 in goodies).

I scrapped a few dollars I had saved from when I sold my Suzuki, and borrowed some more from my dad, to buy the SS off Badwebber Nickcaro. Bought the bike sight unseen : )
