Love the website. I generally filter through all of the knowledge for my answers. However, I am hoping someone can help...It's time to change tires. My thought is that since the wheels are off, I would like to go ahead and powder coat them black. Bumpus Harley in Memphis will powder coat the wheels but have concern of the current coating. Are the stock wheels painted or are they already powder coated? If they are painted, I'll have them move forward. If they are powder coated it will cost X amount more per wheel to clean off the old powder coat. At that point, I'm not sure if the job is worth the value to me.Bumpus is calling Buell tomorrow to find the answer. My thought is that someone here probably already knows.Thanks | ||

I had mine done last April, and the powder coating place did not ask that question...they just bead blast everything that comes in. I had 11 pieces (including the wheels) done for just a little over $200, which included blasting, masking and powder coating. They did a great job!  | ||

I corresponded with Pete at Grandstand last month. I inquired about having my Uly wheels coated in translucent blue to match the Hero Blue plastics. Here's his reply: The stock blue Buell wheels are a pretty standard Candy Blue Transluscent that we can match. As with most trans colors a silver base coat will need to be applied first. Total cost to strip and 2 coat would be $155 per wheel. You would receive the 10% BadWeb discount. Total cost would be $279 plus shipping. Turn around time would be 2 weeks max. Tipsy | ||

Pete does first rate work, and I would have used him myself...it was just that the shipping charges (both ways) for all the parts I was planning to do would have killed me. So I decided to look for a local place. I called several places to get a ball park idea on price, then after I had the bike disassembled I took the parts by a couple places to look at their operations and get a more detailed quote. I settled on a place called Powder Coating Specialties in Golden Colorado because it looked like a profession operation, they had been in business for like twenty some years, and the quote they gave me seemed really good, almost too low. I had 11 parts done black for like $225 (IIRC) and 5 pieces where done in red (forks and rear spring) for their $100 minimum charge. So if you are looking for first rate work, contact Pete...but if you need to save a little (the shipping cost) then you should do you homework for a local place. | ||

IIRC, he dyed it originally, then had it restitched. I'd wait for Steve's word to be sure.  | ||

It's dyed...fairly inexpensive and holds up pretty well, but does need a touch up once or twice a year to keep it pur-dee.  | ||

+1 for Pete doing great work. I'm taking my brand spankin' new Micron to him tomorrow for some of that ceramic stuff he does. If you want to see a nice job go to his website and look at the Micron in the "Recent jobs" section. Badd A$$ for sure. | ||

Skin....#3 is all hand painted. You can't see it in that picture but there is a hand painted yellow and black Arai Quantum/f there too. And another tribute to #3  | ||
