I have seen posts of issues on the 06 Uly models. I'm thinking of dealing on a Demo 06 with a 2 year factory warranty.
What updates should have been done by Buell and what are some you would recommend. I would appreciate a list of the updates and issues to go over with the dealer to confirm they have been done. Living in Northern Minnesota the first must have items that come to mind are heated grips, hand guards and an after market wind screen.
I was also wondering if an after market exhaust and air cleaner (K&N) increase performance or just give the Uly a little more sole and character.
Thanks for your help.

Bob...

The sidestand recall, BAS recall, and the option tall screen recall is all the dealer is legally obligated to make sure are done before you get the bike. Other things like revised bearing seals, clutch cable retaining clip, ECM flashes, heat deflectors and stuff like that are optional.

The bikes are pretty much rung out from the factory. Aftermarket exhausts/intakes and such should be done for reasons other than performance. I dumped well over a grand on mine, but I am very happy with it sound and look. I gained a bit in performance, but its not really noticeable except for the really low end.

I would try the stock wind screen first. I tried the tall and didn't like it as much as the standard screen. It's a matter of personal preference.
As far as performance mods, leave it stock, unless you plan on racing. Mine runs pretty good in stock form, and I don't need any more power than I have now. I wouldn't need more even for track days.
A lot of guys like the Aprillia mirrors. I have them and like them for their looks, and they seem to give a better view.
If it has the stock Dunlops, see if you can get them to swap them to the Pirelli Scorpion syncs.
The heated grips are a great idea. The Uly also comes with handgaurds so you don't have to negotiate about that.
Try out the different seats and see what fits you best.

Oh, and don't forget the full face helmet so people don't see the stupid looking grin we all get from riding these things.

As soon as you can you might want to get some lyndall brake pads for the front. Might keep you from warping the rotor. Or you can wait till it's replaced under warranty then switch to the lyndalls. The breather hose relocation is a good idea to smooth out the engine at small throttle openings. Download ECMSPY and make yourself up a cable so you can do your own TPS resets properly. Tons of info on that here and at buelletinboard.com . I realize I'm getting ahead of yourself here, just giving you options after the purchase. Everybody else has covered any factory/dealer issues. I believe the full coverage helmet has been suggested already. People will think your strange riding around with that stupid grin!!

per ulynut and tootal I agree. For heated grips I have the polly heaters, simple install and work great and also a very cheap price. I also got the toutech side stand foot plate, needed it at some locations.
