Too bad you'll get people tellin you it will kill your performance! I think its a great idea and am lookin into it. A muffler can only be made so many ways and i'm certainly not gonna spend 400 bucks on someone re doin my muffler! I've chopped mine up 3 or 4 times and had sucess in achieving my goals(more sound and sotp power)If you think drummers reworking of your muffler is a big difference between a magnaflow you'd be wrong! Maybe slight because of dyno time but a glass pack is a glass pack...roughly | ||

Looks similar to a Latus muffler. It used a flowmaster muffler. My wifes xb9 had one on it. Ran good and sounded cool. I did not like the noise on long rides but the wife did. The stock 9's don't have the valve. | ||

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Really all you would need is a custom elbow to get the exhaust in and tips to get it out. Maybe a little modification on the clamping(shape a spacer or something). If I was into more noise(got tired of it on my City-X) I was thinking a true Cherry Bomb would be cool. | ||

I'll need some good installed photos of the SS Drummer and that $350 muffler that American Sport Bike sells to see how they are mounted. Then I'll get with the fabricator here and ultimately post specs and drawings for all of us. Any suggestions on mounting it will be appreciated. I live 30min. from Summit Racing, so I can pick it up this weekend. . | ||

I think you're on to something and I might be right behind you. I have thought about experimenting with this muffler as well. Definitely keep us posted on the progress, and any problems you encounter. | ||

Good News! I took off half a day and stopped in to Mac Automotive in Boardman, Ohio. They do custom headers for race cars, funny cars, etc. Shaun, the owner, said he would build me a custom exhaust for the Uly (with the MagnaFlow 11148) for $150 (total with muffler and labor) out of stainless and that included the rear tips (side exit) . Ordered the MagnaFlow 11148 from Summit Racing Monday ($94.00 shipped) ... turns out its a special order piece that gets dropped shipped to the house. Looks like I can use the stock rear muffler straps (seems others have done so), but I'll need an elbow of some sort. I don't know, as of yet, if I can use the front straps, as well. Time will tell. If not, I will need a bracket on the elbow, ala Jardine. I think I might even do a step-by-frigging-step photo how-to guide too (thoses are so fun to read - very informative, as well) ....yeah, right! I'm way too lazy for that. . I'm still waiting to receive the MagnaFlow 11148 from MagnaFlow. As I understand it, from Summit Racing, this is a special order item, that gets dropped shipped to my door. Order was place last Monday. I just now ordered a elbow/bracket as well, from a private vendor, so I need that as well. More on that later, too. Also, I need to order a few torca clamps as well (S0127.8), I guess. The rear straps (S0116.02A8A) can be re-used but a front connector/bracket is required to hold the front, as the muffler is shorter than the stock or race can (a good Muffler shop can fab this up)... I'll take good photos, etc., of all of this for us, so those interested can replicate. My goal is a mellow sounding muffler, louder than stock but quieter than the Drummer can, which to me is just waaay too loud to my way of thinking. John | ||

As luck would have it, big brown dropped it off this afternoon. It shipped from Oceanside, CA ... got it in 8 days. MagnaFlow 11148 - $77 plus shipping from Summit Racing. Here's the Length Shot (14" Long/ Width is 7" plus)  The Inlet Length  And two Interior Shots- it's a straight-thru design that splits into two 2" outlets! Here's the type of elbow-bracket I'm after:  With regard to noise, you can reduce the outlet dia. (and so the noise level to some extent) by installing collars in each outlet pipe (a la Jardine's Quiet Collar). The outlets are 2" ... if I install 1.5" collars inside both outlets, that will (according to my pathetic math and questionable reasoning based solely on area and an inlet dia. of 2.25" from the headers...) reduce the flow by about 14% or so. A good place to start it seems, if its too loud, initially. I think the collars could be a good way to increase or decrease back-pressure too - with some trial-and-error, I could hopefully find the right mix between diveability and noise. I wanted a satin/brushed finish on the muffler, so I used 220P wet/dry sandpaper and then a Scotch-Brite pad. It only took about 1/2 hour, or so. Before: After:  . | ||

Thats gonna sound badass!! Cant wait for the sound clip!! Performance wise is should flow real well and as long as you compensate with the ECU it should put some power out! | ||

Yup, I'd buy an inlet elbow too, if I could find one reasonably priced. The Jardine one is pretty decent, but they won't sell exhaust system parts individually. I personally think that their mufflers are crap, but the inlet elbows look to be reasonable or even good quality. |
